Galaxy (37/20) to Outshine Red Bulls

NY Red Bulls vs LA Galaxy, USA MLS, Wed 5th October 02h00 (CAT), Red Bull Arena

It's the leaders of the Western Conference taking on the 6th placed team in the Eastern Conference on Wednesday morning (RSA Time), when the LA Galaxy travel to the east coast to take on the NY Red Bulls. Both sides are the richest in the USA MLS, with each boasting stars such as David Beckham for the Galaxy, and Thierry Henry for the Bulls. Althought an evenly fought contest in the past, all signs are pointing to the Galaxy here.

David Beckham: Still the Star in the LA Galaxy
To Win (90 Min)
NY Red Bulls 15/10
LA Galaxy 37/20
Draw 22/10

The NY Red Bulls haven't had the most successful season this year, seeing they are languishing in 6th place on the Eastern Conference Log, and need a win here if they are to have any chance of making the MLS play-offs. The Red Bulls lack of killer instinct, has seen them achieve 16 draws this season, a statistic only equalled by one other team in the MLS (the Chicago Fire). Home has been a better place for the Bulls, with 7 wins and 6 draws coming from their 16 home games, and they will be looking to use that home advantage tonight over the Galaxy here.

Away from home the Bulls have come out tops in their last two away encounters against the Galaxy, with a 1-1 draw in May this year, which had followed up a 2-0 victory in September 2010. However, the Bulls have to go as far back as 2007 to find the last time they registered a home win over LA Galaxy. They will be looking to Frenchman and former Barcelona and Arsrenal striker Thierry Henry to continue the fine form he has produced since crossing the Atlantic, which has seen him produce 13 goals in 24 games for the Red Bulls.

LA Galaxy have made their home ground, The Home Depot Centre, a fortress this MLS season with 11 wins and 5 draws in their 16 home games. Their away form has been equally as impressive with only 3 losses in their 15 away games, which included 7 wins. They have conceded only 23 goals in their 31 matches this season, which is the lowest by 9 goals to any other team in the MLS. They enter this game on the back of a come-from-behind victory over Real Salt Lake, that saw them trailing 1-0 at halftime, only to strike back with a goal in the 59th minute, and a precious own goal in the 72nd minute. When a team is in form, they get the rub of the green, and it should be no different for the Galaxy in this encounter.

LA Galaxy will be hit with the fact that two of their big stars, in Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan, will not be featuring in this match, as they head to their respective country's teams for national duty. David Beckham will be featuring here, and his infamous place kicking will be on the back of all the Red Bulls defensive players' minds, after assisting in 15 goals this season.

VERDICT: LA GALAXY 37/20
Judging by all the write-ups and previews I have read, the NY Red Bulls seem to be a team in shambles. They entered this season as Eastern Conference defending champions, but are now hanging on by a thread to make the play-offs for the MLS Cup. Although LA Galaxy are without two of their big stars, defensively they have been sound, and should have enough fire power to get the victory here tonight.
