Sharks 1/3 to Dent Province Hopes

Sharks vs Western Province, Absa Currie Cup, 1st October 2011, Kings Park

It’s a repeat of the 2010 Currie Cup final this weekend when DHL Western Province travel to the Shark Tank to take on the Sharks in what has become a must win encounter for the visitors. The Sharks will be hoping for an improvement on their win over Griquas, where not even Eskom’s inadequecies could draw attention away from what was a patchy performance.

Gunners 23/10 in North London Derby

Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal, Premier League, Sunday 2nd October, White Hart Lane

This weekend is Derby weekend as we have two intriguing encounters between two fierce rivals. The London derby as well as the Merseyside derby is the center piece of this weekend’s action and fans can expect a heated affair as pride will be at stake. An Arsenal win will do wonders to turn around their season, but Spurs will be far from the forgiving type in this one.

English Premier League Preview

What a weekend we have in store for us. Two of the biggest derbies in the league, including a lunch time Merseyside derby on Saturday and the North London derby on Super Sunday. It’s bound to be a great weekend of football. Let’s hope I can continue my recent vein of good form and give you a couple tips that will make the weekend just that little bit better.

Merseyside Derby to End in Gridlock (23/10)

Everton v Liverpool, Premier League, Saturday 1st October, Goodison Park, 14:45

The Merseyside Derby is a fixture that all football fanatics take huge interest in. The two bitter rivals have been going head to head since the inauguration of the premier league. This encounter is never short of heart, determination and pride. The players all know that a victory in this match will go a long way in boosting confidence.

Springboks (-18.5) to Smash Samoa

South Africa v Samoa, RWC 2011, Friday 30th September, North Harbour, 09:30

South Africa and Samoa meet at North Harbour Stadium for their last Group D clash, in what is effectively a play-off game for both sides. This will be the toughest test offered to the Springboks by the Pacific Island nations, with the last meeting between these two sides being a very physical encounter. After a shock victory over the Australians, the Samoan support has rallied behind the team, and within hours this match was sold out. The world will be watching to see if another upset for Samoa is on the cards.

Sporting 21/20 to bring back the glory days

Sporting Lisbon vs Lazio, UEFA Europa League, Thurs 29th Sep, Estádio José Alvalade

Perhaps the fixture of the night on Thursday evening is the meeting between Sporting Lisbon and Lazio in Portugal. These two clubs are expected to fight it out at the top of Group D after both teams spent large sums over the summer in a bid to push on and move up the pecking order in their respective leagues. I expect an open affair with neither team particularly sound defensively at the moment.

PSG 21/10 to seize control of Group F

Athletic Bilbao vs PSG, UEFA Europa League, Thursday 29th Spetember, San Mames

Well the big spending Man City got completely outclassed in their first real test of elite European football on Tuesday night and on Thursday we’ll see if “France’s Man City”, PSG, have what it takes to be considered Europa League contenders. They travel to Spain to take on an Athletic Bilbao side that has made a troublesome start to the season under new coach Marcelo Bielsa.

Chiefs 3/10 to pile the hurt on Arrows

Kaizer Chiefs vs Golden Arrows, Absa PSL, Wednesday 28th September, Peter Mokaba Stadium

Peter Mokaba stadium plays host to a clash between Chiefs and Arrows tonight and the Amakhosi will be hoping for a better result than the last time they played there. On that occasion they were completely outplayed by Ajax Cape Town and were mercilessly shamed in front of the Polokwane crowd, going down 4-0. They will however face easier opposition this time round in Golden Arrows whose coach, Ernst Middendorp, is perilously close to suffering the dreaded axe.

Bjorn 40/1 to continue winning ways

Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, European Tour, 29 September - 2 October, St Andrews

The always interesting Alfred Dunhill Championship tees off this weekend for what promises to be a fine weekend of golf. Hollywood stars such as Michael Douglas, Hugh Grant and Andy Garcia will play alongside some of the finest golfers in the world in a star studded field which includes Darren Clarke, Rory McIlroy and Charl Schwartzel.

Ryan Moore 14/1 to have the moves at The JT Open

The Justin Timberlake Open, PGA Tour, 29 September-02 October, Las Vegas

This week sees TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas play host to the interestingly named Justin Timberlake Open. The course played fourth easiest on Tour last year which is due in part to the fact that it is amongst the shortest courses to be found on Tour. Traditionally the tournament has had some big priced winners so I’ll be looking at a few of these roughies in an attempt to uncover the value.

Chelsea 29/20 in Mata's Home-Coming

Valencia vs Chelsea, UEFA Champions League, Wed 28th September, 20:45

Chelsea travel to the Estadio de Mastella on Wednesday night, for their Champions League Group E clash with Valencia. Chelsea hold the cards currently over Valencia, with the Spaniards yet to record a win over the men from Stamford Bridge. Chelsea will be looking to their in-form Spaniards in Torres and Mata to bag the three points, with the latter enjoying a home-coming to his former club.

Arsenal 4/10 to continue building momentum

Arsenal vs Olympiakos, UEFA Champions League, Wed 28th September, 20:45

Olympiakos travel to The Emirates Stadium on Wednesday in an effort to become the first non-English side to beat Arsenal at home in the Champions League since Inter Milan way back in 2003. Olympiakos find themselves at the foot of group F after their 1-0 loss to Marseille in their first match while Arsenal managed a draw away at German champions Borussia Dortmund.

Napoli 15/20 to get San Paolo rocking

Napoli vs Villarreal, UEFA Champions League, Tuesday 27th September, San Paolo

Napoli will be in the mood for revenge on Tuesday night when they play host to Villareal, the side that knocked them out of the Europa League last season. Napoli picked up a good result in Matchday 1, drawing away at Man City, while Villareal will be looking to bounce back from their home defeat to Bayern Munich or risk falling behind the pack.

Red Devils 2/11 to Bash Basel

Manchester United vs Basel, UEFA Champions League, Tues 26th September, 20:45

Injury stricken Man United play host to Swiss-based Basel in a Group C Champions League clash on Tuesday night. Basel currently sit top of the Group C standings after their win in the first round of matches, but they will need more than a miracle to be there at the end of a 90 minute match in front of the Old Trafford faithful.

Los Blancos 1/5 to teach Ajax a footballing lesson

Real Madrid vs Ajax, UEFA Champions League, Tues 27th September, Santiago Bernabeu

It’s the clash of two of Europe’s biggest clubs on Tuesday night when Real Madrid play host to the famous Ajax Amsterdam football club. Both teams will be familiar with each other, having been drawn together in the group stages for the second year running. Ajax will be looking to show that they are no longer a club on the decline while Real Madrid will be looking to cement their position at the top of the group following their victory on Matchday 1.

Bayern 19/20 to Sweep City in Munich

Bayern Munich vs Man City, UEFA Champions League, Tues 27th September, 20:45

The Champions League clash of Tuesday night sees German power houses Bayern Munich take on the money boys Man City, in this Group A encounter at the Allianz-Arena. City were held to a 1-1 draw with Napoli in the first Champions League round, while Bayern got a vital 2-0 away win against Villarreal. This is the first time these sides have met, but experience on the Champions League stage might just work in Bayern's favour.

Canaries 29/20 for First Carrow Road Victory

Norwich City vs Sunderland, Premier League, Mon 26th September, 21:00

Sunderland travel to Carrow Road on Monday night for their Premier League clash with Norwich City. Both sides are sitting on five points after five matches, and three points for either side will be most welcomed here tonight. The home side has dominated this fixture in the past, but can Sunderland upset the apple cart here and get one up over the Canaries?
