There's just over a week left in the horse racing season until it comes to an end on the 31st of July. All focus on this week's racing will be the battle between Anton Marcus and Gavin Lerena for the jockey championship, and what better pinnacle for the title than the R1 Million Ladbrokes Gold Cup on Saturday at Greyville. After a disastrous day for punters on Vodacom Durban July day, everyone will be hoping they can find a few winners on this final feature day of the season. The current betting shows BLAKE as favorite, but Winning Form's resident tipster sees it differently, and predicts an upset in this race.![]() |

Below are Winning Form's back page tipster eMeM's top bet selections for this week!
Monday: Fairview - Race 9 - MUNTASIR - 9/10
"MUNTASIR has shown some decent form and has taken a liking to PE racing. He has finished runner-up in both his starts in the province and is ideally distance suited today. The son of Fusaichi Pegasus jumps from pole position and should take some beating with Marcus in the irons."
RESULT: 4th place - just under 6 lengths behind the winner FANCY SUM LOVE (backed in from14/1 to 7/1)
Tuesday: Vaal Sand - Race 4 - KALAAM - 33/10
"KALAAM showed her class as she drew off late to win comfortably over six furlongs on this course, five weeks ago. She drops to a minimum trip which is always concerning but there is likely to be a cracking pace and that will play right into her hands. The daughter of Kahal is again very well in at the weights.
RESULT: 4th Place - 3 lengths behind the winner and joint 2nd favorite KINEMATIC COUNTESS
Wednesday: Kenilworth - Race 4 - SANSHAAWES - 11/10
"SANSHAAWES has promising form and finished well for second behind King of Pain in the Langerman over 1500m last time. He drops to maiden company and should take a power of beating with Marcus aboard."
Thursday: Vaal Turf - Race 2 - HOUSE OF WAX
"HOUSE OF WAX campaigned in back-to-back features in Zimbabwe recently. Perhaps he needed to get used to the local surroundings when unplaced in his penultimate outing but ran a much improved race over this trip last time out. He has since been raised two pounds in the ratings but boasts a cracking record on this course and should take some beating, despite shouldering a big mass."
Friday: Fairview - Race 4 - INDIAN HAWK
"INDIAN HAWK's last win came with Anton Marcus up some 32 weeks ago and the championship seeking jockey looks set to record the son of Black Minnaloushe's third career win today. The Snaith trained inmate ran on strongly for second place behind subsequent winner Tribal Dance in the Derby last time and returns from an 11 week break. He is really well in the weights and the drop in distance shouldn't pose much of a problem as he races fresh."
Saturday: Greyville - Race 4 - LOOK AFTER ME - 11/2
"LOOK AFTER ME was perhaps moved on too soon in his last outing over 2500m at Clairwood. He was his customary self when slightly slow into stride but his apprentice jockey moved on him at the 500m and the son of Lizard Island tired too late to finish just over two lengths behind BAMAKO. He meets his conqueror on 2kg better terms but his pilot would have learnt plenty from that start and he could be an entirely different proposition on this shorter run-in."
Saturday: Greyville - Ladbrokes Gold Cup - Race 7 - SAGE THRONE - 12/1
"SAGE THRONE, as expected never threatened in the July last time but will be an entirely different proposition over this marathon trip. He was always going to find that trip against that caliber of opposition tough to handle but had solid form prior to that. He meets the Lonsdale winner BLAKE on 3kg better terms for a neck beating in his penultimate outing over 2400m on this course. The son of Dynasty has always given the indication that he will love this step-up in distance and could be the right one in a very competitive contest."

Saturday: Kenilworth - Race 4 - JET EXPLORER
"JET EXPLORER appears much better than his current rating and was very impressive when comfortably winning in his last outing over this trip under a big mass of 59.5kg. He tackles much stronger and isn't well in on official ratings but is still lightly raced and has plenty of scope."
Sunday: Turffontein - Race 4 - Lorne Cottage
"LORNE COTTAGE was her customary self when slow into stride in her last outing over 1450m on this track but found an explosive finish to win going away. She clearly escaped with only a three pound penalty and is much more comfortable over this extra distance. The daughter of Fort Wood drops slightly in class and should take a power of beating."
