Australia vs India ODI Preview

Australia vs India, Commonwealth Bank Series #1, Sunday 5th February, 04:50, MCG

This encounter between Australia and India marks the return of the Tri-Series to Australian calendar cricket. God knows how we’ve all missed it. It has always been a fiercely contested tournament, touring teams fighting to match the Aussies, who have always dominated. Home ground advantage has certainly favoured the Australians, who have won 18 of the 29 Tri-Series played. Some of one-day cricket’s finest moments have come from Tri-Series matches.

AFCON Quarter-Finals Preview

I start this article on a rather somber note. In what should be a time of celebration of football on the African Continent, I am instead consigned to filling this space with words of tragedy and despair. What has happened to “The Beautiful Game”? The pictures coming from Egypt have shocked the footballing world to its core. When did this become more than a game? Does the life of a human really mean that little? Let us hope that the quarter-finals this weekend can restore some of the damaged pride of African football and provide a beacon of light in this dark time.

Chelsea vs Man United League Preview

Chelsea v Manchester United – Sunday 5th February – Stamford Bridge (18:00)

The English Premier League serves up another vital clash this weekend as 2nd place Manchester United travel to Stamford Bridge in search of 3 points in an attempt to gain top spot over current leaders Manchester City. This is also an important game for Chelsea who have struggled to find form and a win here is much needed in their attempts to retain a top 4 finish.

AC Milan vs Napoli Preview - Serie A

AC Milan v Napoli - Sunday 5th February – San Siro (21:45)

The Italian Serie A has reached the home stretch and it looks like it will go down to the wire. These two teams are both title contenders and will be looking to put a dent in either’s title hopes. AC Milan are flying high in the league as they have put together a rich run of form. They currently sit 2nd on the table, a single point off the log leaders Juventus. Napoli has dropped off the pace in recent times and finds themselves lagging in 7th place on the log.  How will they cope at the San Siro this weekend?

Australia vs India 2nd T20 Preview

Australia vs India, 2nd T20, Fri 3rd Feb, 10:00

The first of the two T20’s between Australia and India was played in Sydney on Wednesday. The hosts completed a resounding victory on the back of a superb innings of 72 by Matthew Wade, the Australian T20 wicket-keeper. His perfectly weighted innings was almost over-shadowed by a Warner switch hit six, which kept the commentators busy with jabberings of innovation and confidence on the part of Warner. Unfortunately Warner was characteristically out attempting another heave and miscuing to deep extra cover.

Phoenix Open Golf Preview

The Phoenix Open, 02 February- 05 February, TPC Scottsdale

The 2012 US Season is well underway and this week players take to TPC Scottsdale for the 5th tournament of the year. The 7200 yard par 71 is known for being a somewhat different course as altitude, desert scrub land and Bermuda greens make for some interesting challenges. Expect low scores this week although history shows wayward shots and the inability to hit greens will be sorely punished. Anyone can triumph and don’t be surprised if one of the tour minnows takes this one.

Pakistan vs England 3rd Test Preview

Pakistan vs England, 3rd Test, 4th - 8th Feb, 07:30

The thing that has made England’s downfall so enjoyable to witness, is that it has come on the back of such sheer arrogance. Non-English cricket fans worldwide will have been rubbing their hands with glee watching England’s last innings meltdown in Abu Dhabi. It was not long ago that England were touted as world-beaters, a class above the rest according to well versed English rhetoric.

Qatar Masters 2012 Golf Preview

Qatar Masters, European Tour, 02 February- 05 February, Doha

The Qatar Masters tees off at Doha GC this week and a good looking field will be looking to stamp their authority on the European Tour at this tough, exposed course. Alvaro Quiros has dominated here in recent history and so will certainly be one to keep an eye on but a short price and poor form scare me off. Rather focus will be on those players who hit the ball long and straight as the tough layout and numerous water hazards punish those wayward off the tee.

Australia vs India 1st T20 Preview

Australia vs India, 1st T20, Wed 1st Feb, 10:05, SCG

The first of two T20 internationals between the Aussies and the Indians gets under way in Sydney on Wednesday. The tour of Australia thus-far has been an abortion for the Indians, having been white-washed 4-0 in the tests without once looking like possible victors. The change in format will be welcome for the Indians and they will be hopeful of taking a young and experimental Aussie team down to the wire. All T20 internationals this year will be played in the spirit of gearing up for the T20 World Cup scheduled for September. Experimentation in line-ups and tactics will be par for the course, as teams look for a finely-tuned unit to take to Sri Lanka.
