So I’ve spent a couple weeks away from my bread and butter, exploring the more exotic cuisine served up in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. As pleasant as it was, I feel rather starved of the passion and drama that only English football can produce and I’m more than ready to sink my teeth into the meat of the English Premier League once again. Food metaphors aside, we have a mouth-watering (couldn’t help it) weekend in store for us and a pivotal one in the title race, as well as the chase for the Champions League spots. All eyes will be on Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra’s showdown, but I’m just hoping that all that proves to be a sideshow for some thoroughly entertaining football.

Australia vs Sri Lanka Preview
Australia vs Sri Lanka, Commonwealth Bank Series, Friday 10th February, 06:20
We usher in the third match of the Commonwealth Bank Series with a match pitting the hosts against the Sri Lankan visitors. Australia have started well, comfortably beating India in the opening match in a game shortened due to rain. Sri Lanka were not as lucky, losing to the Indians in their opening match on Wednesday. The Sri Lankans were about 30-40 runs short of a total that may have proved too much for the Indian chase but unfortunately were not able to link partnerships to form a bigger score, and no-one really pushed on with their innings to take it away from the Indian bowlers.

Man United vs Liverpool Preview
Manchester United v Liverpool - Saturday 11th February – Old Trafford (14:45)
The English Premier League is tossing up mouth watering encounters on a more frequent note as the title race looks to be going down to the wire. These old foes will go head to head and Liverpool would love nothing more than to dent United’s 20th Championship title pursuit. The build-up to the match has been shrouded in the controversy surrounding Patrice Evra and Luis Suarez, let's hope the match lives up to expectation with both teams going all out for the victory.

Dubai Desert Classic Preview
Dubai Desert Classic, 9th - 12th February, Emirates Golf Club
Players will breathe a collective sigh of relief as the Dubai Desert Classic tees off on Thursday as this is the last leg of the Desert Swing. A 138 strong field will compete for the 1st place prize of over 300 000 Euro on a challenging layout. The 7300 yard par 72 Majlis Golf Course is characterised by undulating fairways, well protected greens and water hazards that come into play on ten of the eighteen holes. Solid ball strikers such as McIlroy and Westwood will fare well here.

AT&T Pebble Beach National, 09 February- 12 February, Pebble Beach Golf Links
In my opinion Pebble Beach is one of the most beautiful courses in the world and I’ll be looking forward to seeing how the worlds’ best battle it out on this magnificent course. The coastal setting and resulting wind factor and Poa Annua greens make this a challenge for even the most seasoned player and a bit of knowledge goes a long way in saving shots here. Expect a win from one of the bigger names this week; I reckon it’s finally their time to shine.

India vs Sri Lanka Preview
India vs Sri Lanka, Commonwealth Bank Series, Wed 8th Feb, 05:50
Oh, how the mighty have fallen. In as short a period as 10 months, both teams have gone from traversing the lofty heights of ODI cricket as World Cup finalists to neither of them being favourites for a simple Tri Series. The worst part of this sad tale is that it is difficult to decipher who has had the longest fall from grace. 10 months ago India were the number one ranked test team and World Champions. They toppled from the test perch after enduring two away-from-home whitewashes, one to England and one most recently to Australia, the one in Australia showing huge weakness in India’s previously untouchable, star-studded middle-order.
