Floyd Mayweather Jr: A Smart, Rich Coward

Surrounded by a posse of behemoth handlers, Floyd Mayweather Jr makes his way to the stage. Thirty minutes late, he takes about the same time to make his way through the crowd, signing autographs as he goes. This is his game, here he is king. And what is a king without his minions. The Money team in tow, he takes the stage, where his throne awaits. It’s all a bit tacky for my liking, buy hey, each to his own. The conference is rather bland, especially in the wake of Tuesday’s outburst. It’s just not Cotto’s style to trash talk his opponent, even though Mayweather in his current predicament makes for perfect fodder. It would be interesting to see how things would’ve gone if the glove was on the other hand.

English Premier League Week 37 Preview

So they tell me the Blue Moon is rising, but I still have my doubts. As dire as the red half of Manchester were on Monday, they are still well in this title race and, for me at least, are still considered favourites. You only have to look at Wednesday’s results to see how tough it is going to be for City this weekend. Newcastle want Champions League football, and Papiss Cisse is on a renegade mission to get it for them. Alan Pardew and his team have nothing to lose, having been 100/1 to finish in the top four pre-season, and they are using that to their advantage. They will no doubt throw caution to the wind again on Sunday and could very well curtail Man City’s title hopes.

Inter Milan vs AC Milan Preview

Inter Milan vs AC Milan, Sunday 5th May, 20:45, San Siro

Derby Della Madonnina (or the Milan Derby), is widely considered one of the major crosstown rivalries not just in the Italian league, but the world. It is called "Derby Della Madonnina" in honour of one of the main sights in the city of Milan, the statue of the Virgin Mary on the top of the Duomo, which is often referred to as the "Madonnina". The two have met 42 times prior to Sunday’s encounter, 18 of which went the way of AC Milan. They have shared the spoils 10 times whilst Inter have been victorious 14 times, the last of which was the reverse tie that they claimed 1-0. Argentine forward Diego Milito scored the match-winner in the 54th minute and even though the game featured only one goal, it had plenty of excitement.

Chelsea vs Liverpool FA Cup Final Preview

Chelsea vs Liverpool, FA Cup Final, Saturday 5th May, 18:15

So it’s all come full circle. The saga that started on deadline day last January will come to a climatic crescendo on Saturday on the hallowed turf of Wembley. Forget everything else, this FA Cup final will be a display of who really did the better business on that fateful day. Both Torres and Suarez registered their first hatricks for their respective clubs since signing this past weekend, and then of course there is the tall lonesome figure of Andy Carroll, ponytail in tow. All roads lead to Wembley, but only one leads up the 107 steps to the oldest and most cherished of cups in world football.

Wells Fargo Championship Preview

Wells Fargo Championship, 3rd - 6th May, Quail Hollow Club

This weekend the Wells Fargo has attracted a top notch field and there’s no surprise there, as players compete for a share of the $6.5 million prize fund. Everyone will be loving the idea of a $1.2 million first prize pay cheque, so expect to see some top notch golf played on this par 72 7,442 yard course. Big names to win here include Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods so it’s unlikely a huge upset is on the cards and I doubt you can go wrong sticking with the bookies top 20. The real question though is which of those big names has it in them to win.

Open de Espana Preview

Open de Espana, 3rd - 6th May, Real Club de Golf El Prat

The Open de Espana tees off at Real Club de Golf El Prat this weekend and South African golf followers will be frothing at the chance to back one of our home grown heroes in a tournament where they have traditionally done well. In 2007 Charl Schwartzel took home the honours here and last year, Thomas Aiken stepped up and won convincingly. The par 72 course measures 7,298 yards in length and interestingly the only Spanish player to win in the last 10 years was Alvaro Quiros, proving home ground advantage doesn’t count for much. Who has it in them to win this? Let’s see.

Man City vs Man Utd Preview

Manchester City vs Manchester United, Monday 30th April, 21:00, Etihad Stadium

It all comes down to this. Each time a Manchester derby has come along in the last few years, it has been billed as the biggest one ever, and with the Premier League title possibly resting on the outcome of Monday nights clash at the Etihad Stadium, that description has never been more apt. Expect Manchester, and the world to come to a standstill, as these two giants meet to decide the fate of the Premier League trophy.
