Zimbabwe T20 Tri-Series - 1st Round Previews

Zimbabwe T20 Tri – Series | 17 – 20 June | Harare, Zimbabwe | All Games 13:00

As preparation for the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka in September, a triangular series featuring South Africa and two of the most promising international teams that lack game time, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, has been organised. South Africa requested the tour as part of the aforementioned preparation, and after Bangladesh were rejected for an ODI series in South Africa by CSA, they were also included which would ease some of the monetary concerns, as it was touch-and-go whether this series would even be televised. Although these problems were resolved, the series still remains as unofficial, and will not be recognised as T20 internationals, due to the series falling outside of the Future Tours Programme. The teams vary from the norm, with many players rested and with games occurring almost every day; it will all be over within a week. In any case, I'll try find you some value in the first three fixtures.

SANZAR: Rugby's Commodity Traders

Bruising. Uncompromising. But what else would one expect from any Springbok side, let alone one coached by the master of pragmatism, Heyneke Meyer. Brad Barritt’s lacerated eyeball which keeps him out of this coming weekends test epitomizes the nature of the test and lays down a benchmark for the ruthless efficiency that will no doubt characterize Meyer’s reign. Now looking towards Coca Cola Park and the pervasive threat of altitude it seems as if the English will have an extremely tough time turning this one around. They buckled under the weight of a powerful second half performance by the Boks, and one would think that Durban represented their best chance of success; as they were coming off an impressive 2nd place finish in the Six Nations and coming up against a fairly untested Springbok outfit. Yet Meyer’s men managed to rally, and England now have a tough task of breaking an eight match losing streak in head to head confrontations between the two nations that dates back to 2006.

Euro 2012 Weekend Preview

Well now, what a first week this has been at the Euros. All teams have already notched up at least one goal and I can confidently say that this tournament has been infinitely more exciting than the drivel we witnessed on our shores in 2010. At the time of writing two of the groups had completed their second round of matches and no one was yet guaranteed of an early plane ride home. This should make for an interesting final round of fixtures. Each team’s approach will depend greatly on what they will require out of their final group match, so I will only be looking at the matches that are known at this time, for obvious reasons. So let’s get into the action then, for there is money to be made.

Sri Lanka vs. Pakistan - 4th ODI Preview

Sri Lanka vs Pakistan | 16 June | R. Premadasa International Stadium, Colombo | 10:45

Rain continues to add it's mighty influence in this series, affecting the first ODI and completely washing out the third. The series still hangs on the edge of a cliff at 1-1, and both teams know that a loss here will erase any chances of a series win. Sri Lanka have not beaten Pakistan in the last five matches played between the two of them at this ground, largely due to the variation in the Pakistani attack, which has looked ordinary thus-far in the series. Same prediction as last time? Well, you will have to read further to find out...

All or Nothing

Euro 2012 Group A Final Matches Preview | Saturday 16th June | 20:45

Group A head into their final games on Saturday with qualification still wide open for all four teams.  Russia face Greece, while Poland take on the Czechs, with the winner of those games certain to qualify. It's bound to go down to the wire in Poland, with tears of despair and jubilation in the offing.

Sweden v England Euro 2012 Preview

Sweden v England | Friday 15th June | 20:45 | Kyviv, Ukraine

Friday will see the second round of matches in Group D with England taking on Sweden with both teams looking for no less than 3 points. Sweden had a poor start to their Euro 2012 with a 2-1 loss to co-hosts Ukraine while Roy Hodgson’s England were content with a draw against a superior French side. Both teams have it all to play for and know that a win will be necessary if they harbor genuine hopes of progression.

The US Open Preview

The US Open | 14 -17 June | Olympic Club, San Francisco | 21:30

The much anticipated US Open tees off at the Olympic Club on Thursday and anyone who follows the game knows that this is going to be an epic. This year the par 70 course measures 7,170 yards in length and if previous years are anything to go by, the course is going to play tough. Driving accuracy is important in this tournament as high rough punishes those wayward shots, but hit it straight and you still have to contend with pinched fairways and undulating greens. The winner is going to have to play an impeccable four rounds here, so experience is key. Who’ll walk away a legend on Sunday? Let’s try finding out.

England vs. West Indies - 1st ODI Preview

Natwest Series | 16 June | The Rose Bowl, Southampton | 11:30

As we bid farewell to the test series with washed out conditions in Birmingham, the two days play that we did manage to savour brought their fair share of excitement. Dinesh Ramdin gave legend Sir Vivian Richards the proverbial middle-finger, which only made him look like a bitter little boy. Tino Best made a name for himself on the world stage with a score of 95, coming in at number 11, which is almost more than the collective West Indies top order made all series. We also witnessed Bairstow's stumps destroyed, which brings a smile to my dial every time I think of it. And so, without further ado, the ODI series.

Just The Tip - Issue 1

This is no ordinary sport magazine, and it isn’t a how-to betting guide. This my friends, is its own beast. In honour of two of our favourite past times, we’ve gathered together a rag-tag bunch of sports junkies and betting men. We threw them in a room, with a couple of supplies – alcohol, cigarettes, pen, paper, television and a Hollywoodbets account – and they walked out a with a profit and a magazine. This magazine.

Sri Lanka vs. Pakistan - 3rd ODI Preview

This tightly woven subcontinental showdown reaches the half-way mark as both teams play tug-of-war for the upper-hand in the series. It could not be closer between these two nations, both are entertaining in their own right and capable of some phenomenal cricket, but both have struggled for consistency on the international stage. Their meetings are suitably unpredictable, as was shown by the contrasting T20's and was evident in the first two ODI's. However, I place that burden in my hands and I take you on a journey of wealth and discovery. Join me...

The Week In Sport

Monday 11th June – Sunday 17th June

The sporting world trekked a familiar path this past week, with a certain amount of familiarity about results across the board. The Southern hemisphere continued their dominance on the rugby field over the visitors from up north, as they made it a clean sweep in the Inbound Tours. Formula 1 continued in a similar vein, with yet another winner, making it an astonishing 7 different winners so far this season. It was business as usual in the tennis world, while in golf McIlroy shook off recent demons before suffering a last-hole meltdown at the St Judes Classic.
