Vaughan Marshall saddles the favourite, TRIBAL DANCE (12/10), in this weekend’s Betting World Derby on Sunday 24 June 2012. The son of Tiger Dance was victorious in the East Cape Derby run at Arlington last time out, and will look to replicate that form in "KZN's" Derby. His top contender lies in SHOGUNNAR, who hails from the Gavin van Zyl yard and will be partnered by Keegan Latham. His price of 4/1 makes strong appeal as he is improving with each outing. His last run in the Daily News was super impressive as he was running on into third 4.25 lengths behind current July favourite Jackson and a neck behind Vettel. This is an intriguing contest and this small but potent derby field will keep us glued to our seats with anticipation. Friday, 22 June 2012

Germany v Greece QF2 Preview
Germany v Greece | Euro 2012 | Friday 22nd June | 20:45 | Gdansk
On Saturday evening Greece progressed to the quarter-finals of Euro 2012 with a 1-0 win over Russia in their final group match. While there is still hope that Michel Platini will make an about turn, change the rules and let the Russians through, the smart money is on the football loving public having to endure at least another 90 minutes of Greek “football”. We were led to believe that it would not come to this, but Giorgios Karagounis decided not to read the meticulous script co-written by the UEFA president and everyone’s favourite Polish voyeur, Roman Polanski. That is partly because he cannot read and partly because the threat of a monetary fine for the Greek FA fell on deaf ears as they are already bankrupt.

Spain v France 3rd QF Preview
Spain v France | Euro 2012 | Saturday 23rd June | 20:45
Saturday night sees a match fit for a final as the World Champions take on France in Donetsk. France’s 23-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt against Sweden, meaning that instead of a meeting with Italy they must now face up to the defending champions. It could prove a costly result. Spain finished top of Group C with a last-gasp winner against Croatia, but despite a swashbuckling performance against Ireland questions still remain over La Furia Roja, and more tellingly their unequivocal support of the Tiki-Taka style of play. This one has all the makings of a classic, let’s hope for our sake that it lives up to its billing.

England v Italy | Euro 2012 | Sunday 24th June | 20:45
Football is my business. This is my profession, my forte, my thing… So why do I continue to be off the mark at this tournament? Is it that my judgment is clouded by my passion for the game, am I thinking more like a fan than the hardened gambler that I am? Well one thing is for sure, I was well off the mark when it came to England. They were meant to be packing their Louis Vuitton bags and heading back to that miserable isle they call home. Instead they topped their group and set up a very winnable quarter-final with Italy. This one won’t be pretty, but it is bound to serve up its fair share of drama and intrigue, for after all this is a knock-out match involving England, and they never fail to disappoint.

Zimbabwe Tri Series - 2nd Round Previews
Zimbabwe T20 Tri – Series | 21 – 24 June | Harare, Zimbabwe | All Games 13:00
Although the first round of games has not yet drawn to a close, the tournament moves so quickly that we cannot become complacent. There is money to be made here and I intend to guide you as best I can. However, the tournament has it's criticisms and I'm willing to indulge them, just for a moment. Many believe there is little in the way of substance here for the South African team, as although it is a T20 World Cup warm-up, half the XI that will take the field in Sri Lanka are not going to be there. I think this series is a great opportunity to test fringe players, and a great opportunity for these players to impress selectors and although there is likely to be a fair amount of reshuffling, the Proteas should get what they need from this series. Obviously, anything less than a tournament win would not be good enough, so let's see if we can get them there...

England vs West Indies - 3rd ODI Preview
England vs West Indies | 3rd ODI | 22nd June | Headingley, Leeds | 11:45
The English once again proved their unrelenting dominance over the West Indies, dishing out a resounding 8 wicket thumping to the islanders on Tuesday and taking the series 2-0. One must now feel that all hope for a West Indian fightback in any form is well and truly gone, as even the swashbuckling Chris Gayle could not invigorate the beaten side. The following match is nothing but a dead rubber and can either be construed as an opportunity for English fringe players, or another opportunity for the West Indians to flog a dead horse. I prefer the latter.

Sri Lanka vs Pakistan - 1st Test Preview
Sri Lanka vs Pakistan | 1st Test | 22 - 26 June | Galle | 06:45
Pakistan will be looking to put the ODI series behind them, as the gear up for the start of the test series on Friday. Sri Lanka can be a punishing country to play cricket in, especially test matches where you can be out in the field for two days while Jayawardene and Sangakkara nudge and nurdle your bowling to all corners of the ground. The searing heat can be oppressive and draining, and the English found this out the hard way a few months back. However, Pakistan are from this part of the world, are used to this type of treatment and by the looks of things, it will a whole lot cooler than when the English were there. Let's see how they cope...

PGA Tour: Travelers Championship Preview
The Travelers Championship | 21st - 24th June | Connecticut | 13:00
As the dust settles after the US Open, players on the PGA Tour will be making their way to TPC at River Highlands to take part in something slightly less stressful. A strong field of competitors will line up here and anyone thinking Webb Simpson will be taking a deserved break is mistaken as he is included in the field. The par 70 course stands at 6 841 yards in length and had played host to the tournament since 1984. Traditionally scores here have been low and last year Fredrik Jacobson won with an impressive 20-under. I expect to see some good golf going down over the four days. Who will win this one? Let’s find out.

BMW International | 21st - 24th June| Cologne, Germany | 07:00
This weekend the European Tour stops over in Germany, for the BMW International. The tournament will be hosted at the Golf Club Gut Larchenhof, designed by Jack Nicklaus, and the par 72 courses measures 72 89 yards and has seen some massive names claim the winners cheque in recent years. Included amongst those are Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer, but don’t let this fool you. Smaller names have a good chance of a solid finish here, especially this year as a few of the big guns are sitting this one out. So who will take home 1st prize on Sunday? Let’s see…

Czech Republic v Portugal QF1 Preview
Czech Republic v Portugal | Euro 2012 | Thursday 21st June 2012 | 20:45 | Warsaw
Cristiano Ronaldo finally came to life on Sunday, stroking in two finely taken
goals as Portugal set up a meeting with Czech Republic for a place in the final
four. Twenty four hours prior to that it was the Czech’s who were celebrating
having knocked out the co-hosts with a strong second-half showing, and this
coupled with a surprise Greek victory meant that they finished atop Group A and
avoided a meeting with Germany. It should prove to be an entertaining affair with both teams penchant for attacking football.

England vs West Indies - 2nd ODI Preview
England vs West Indies | 19 June | The Kennington Oval, London | 12:45
The West Indian tour capitulation continued on Saturday, as they went down to the English by 114 runs, figured by the Duckworth/Lewis method. With this only being a three-match series, it is now or never for the West Indies if they wish to take the series down to the wire. However, it looks the case that the English are just too mentally strong for a West Indian team that seems to slump from bad to worse every next time I watch them. Chris Gayle's foot injury has put him in doubt for the remainder of the series, and with that probably goes any chance of a big West Indian hundred to put the English under pressure. All this and more, in the second ODI preview.

The Week in Sport
Wow, how the weeks do fly past. The Euro 2012 provided it's characteristic surprises, which Russia and Poland knocked out of group A, sending the greasy Greeks and the sneaky Czechs through to the quarter-finals. Group B saw Denmark and the Netherlands suffer early exits from the group of death, with Germany topping the group and Portugal taking the runners-up position. England took an emphatic 1-0 lead in the current ODI series with the Windies, while Sri Lanka made sure they cannot lose their ODI series at home and the Zimbabweans got the jump in the Tri-Series, beating Bangladesh. The usual suspects triumphed in the rugby and drama ensued in the tennis, with Nalbandian disqualified for kicking an advertising board at a line judge and slicing his shin. If we are witnessing this type of violence in tennis, what does this week have in store?
