Trying to cast a sporting analogy that could characterize the semi-final encounter between the Stormers and the Sharks, one is drawn to the great tennis rivalry of Borg and McEnroe. The cool and icily efficient Borg is embodied in the organized yet mechanical Stormers, while the Sharks seem to spark with the enthusiasm and unpredictability of the American. This clash of styles has been reflected in two very close encounters this season. That old adage of rugby, “the battle has to be won up front”, seems to always have particular resonance in the context of a South African derby and this weekends clash should be no different.Thursday, 26 July 2012

Sri Lanka vs India - 3rd ODI Preview
Sri Lanka vs India | 28 July | Colombo, Sri Lanka | 10:45
If anyone was under the misguided assumption that the pitch a match is played on does not make a difference, they would only need to take a look at the two previous ODI's played in Hambantota. The first was a good paced and flat wicket, one on which the Indians breezed past the 300-mark, which they have so regularly done in recent times. The second was played on an adjacent pitch on the same ground, which was much slower, and India faltered, allowing the Sri Lankans to get their noses back into the series. The third ODI, has all the tension of a sexually frustrated teenager.

Super Rugby Semi Final 1: Chiefs vs Crusaders Preview
Friday sees the dynamic Chiefs look to usurp the most devastating force in Super Rugby history, the Crusaders. The Chiefs beat the Crusaders in Napier before losing somewhat controversially in Hamilton a few weeks back. However, it is playoff rugby time and the boys from Canterbury are the perennial masters of taking that thing called log play and rendering it obsolete; just ask the Stormers after what was a comprehensive semi-final defeat at Newlands last year. Canadian Open Preview
Canadian Open | US PGA Tour | 26th - 29th July | 13:00 | Hamilton Golf & Country Club
After the excitement of last weekend the PGA Tour heads back across to Canada where an exhausted field will tee off for the Canadian Open. The last time a tournament was played here was in 2006 and it was then that Jim Furyk claimed a narrow victory. The par 70 layout is made up of fast fairways and long rough, so much like last week accuracy off the tee is a must. Small greens make for interesting approaches where a solid GIR% will be rewarded. This isn’t the end of it though as the greens themselves are said to be extremely difficult. Overall, whoever wins this will have to be the whole package. Who will that be? Let’s try find out.

Lyoness Open Preview
Lyoness Open | European Tour | 26th - 29th July | 07:00 | Diamond Cup
The Lyoness Open, previously known as the Austrian open, has the unenviable task of having to follow the Open Championship. No doubt a lot of weekend golfers are tired after spending hours in front of the TV watching the game as the past week’s activities made it tough to leave the couch. This one has therefore become one for the purists. The small prize purse and timing have also ensured the field is less than brilliant but don’t let this deter you. The weaker the field, the greater the value to be found! The course is a 7, 386 yard par 72 and there is water all over the show. Two island greens make for interesting viewing so be sure to watch at least a portion of this one. Despite the weak field let's see if there’s any value to be found.

Best Bets South African Horse Racing Week 30
Winning Form's Tipster Top Bets - Week 30
There's just over a week left in the horse racing season until it comes to an end on the 31st of July. All focus on this week's racing will be the battle between Anton Marcus and Gavin Lerena for the jockey championship, and what better pinnacle for the title than the R1 Million Ladbrokes Gold Cup on Saturday at Greyville. After a disastrous day for punters on Vodacom Durban July day, everyone will be hoping they can find a few winners on this final feature day of the season. The current betting shows BLAKE as favorite, but Winning Form's resident tipster sees it differently, and predicts an upset in this race.

Sri Lanka vs India - 2nd ODI Preview
Sri Lanka vs India | 24 July | Hambantota, Sri Lanka | 10:45
With the Proteas battling it out in England for the number one position in test cricket, one can be forgiven for forgetting that on the other side of the world, two subcontinental giants are involved in their own struggle. India and Sri Lanka are embroiled in an ODI series, one that should offer some fun for the punters with large totals to be accumulated and potentially even contests. With such exciting players involved and two greats of the game facing off as opposing captains, it should be riveting.
