Dutch Super Cup Preview
Ajax Amsterdam v PSV Eindhoven | Sunday 5th August | 18:00 | Amsterdam Arena
With the Dutch Eredivisie kicking-off next weekend, the annual Johan Cruijff Schaal (shield) will open the season this weekend. Also known as the Dutch Super Cup, the competition is contested by the league winners and the domestic cup (KNVB Cup) winners. Both Ajax and PSV were the most dominant teams in the league last season with Ajax defending their league title and PSV finishing third, one point behind Feyenoord but scoring 17 goals more.

The Bridgestone Invitational Preview
The Bridgestone Invitational | US PGA Tour | 2 - 5 August | 13:00 | Firestone Country Club
The Bridgestone Invitational tees off on Thursday and all eyes are going to be on Tiger to see if he can continue his domination of Firestone CC. Since 1999 he’s won this tournament 7 times so it’s no surprise to see him priced up at 9/2. However this does mean there’s value to be had in the rest of the field so I’ll be looking at them in the hopes that Tiger doesn’t perform this week. The course plays at 7,400 yards to a par of 70, so driving distance is going to be a massive asset. The tricky pin positions mean that a long drive will make for good angles for approaches and traditionally the big hitters have dominated the leaderboards. Who has the game to win this one? Let’s try and find out.

Reno-Tahoe Open | US PGA Tour | 2nd - 5th August | 13:00 | Montreux Golf & Country Club
Moving away from the Bridgestone Invitational, the less popular event this weekend is the Reno-Tahoe Open. This one is played at Montreux Golf and Country Club, a par 72 measuring 7,472 yards in length. This year a change in format sees the tournament use a Stableford scoring system, so emphasis is going to be placed on making birdies. Change is always good, so it’s going to be interesting to see who adapts to this type of game. As such birdie making stats are the order of the day and players who sit high in this statistic demand your full attention. Who are those? Let’s have a look.

England vs South Africa - 2nd Test Preview
England vs South Africa | 2 August | Headingley, Leeds | 11:45
Whilst sitting on a variety of friend's couches, bar stools and even the floor of my local supermarket, I watched the Proteas surge to one of the greatest test victories in their history. I have a Drifta at home, so I can watch the game in my own comfort, however, a small computer screen pales in comparison to a nice chunky HD panel when viewing the Proteas thrashing the English all over the park, making the fielders gamble about like rabbits. I would even go so far as to say the Proteas first victory at the Oval rivals the momentous comeback against the Australians, spear-headed by Vinnige Fanie. The thought of last week warms my heart and embraces my mind like an expensive whiskey and I'm drunk on the after effects. However, I will attempt to be as sober and balanced as possible in my predictions, keeping in the spirit of the game.

A History Lesson: A Coming of Age Tale
It is only a matter of days before the Proteas attempt to follow up their imperious victory at the Oval with a strong performance at Headingley. This ground has seen it's fair share of history over the long years; it saw Don Bradman make two triple test centuries, in 1930 and 1934, and also staged one of test cricket's most dramatic comebacks in 1981, when Ian Botham struck 149 not out after England had followed on. Chasing 130, Australia were bowled out by Bob Willis, with figures of 8/43. This beat odds of 500/1... I know I would've liked to have a piece of that. Instead, we look to a test as recent as 2008, when South Africa buried the English and took a giant step towards a first test series victory in England since 1965.
