Race 4: POPPINS(6)

Mitch Wiese
Magic Tips Best Bets

Jockey: Deon SAMPSON - Trainer: Mitchell WIESE

There wasn't much too choose between FOLLOW THE TIGER and YOSHIE on their meeting behind Giant's Niece over this c & d in mid-February, yet the betting will point heavily in the favour of the latter. That said, the former has fitness on her side and is back against her own sex after a fair last outing and represents the value, of the pair.

Race 3: ZULU LEGEND(17)
Jockey: Luyolo MXOTHWA - Trainer: Gavin SMITH

ZULU LEGEND waited a long time to make his debut but it was definitely worth the wait as the four-year old son of Solskjaer raced prominently before staying on nicely for a close third over the minimum trip in yielding conditions, three weeks ago. That run would have brought him on nicely and he should relish today's extra furlong. He will again benefit from an apprentice claim and should have lots of improvement to come.

Race 4: VIVALDA(8)
Jockey: Karl ZECHNER - Trainer: Grant PADDOCK

The Paddock yard seem to have this Conditions Plate at their mercy with VIVALDA and the ultra-consistent POPPINS. The weights suggest that the latter is the right one but the former is a fast improving three-year old that has a bit of class about her and gets the first vote. She was declared a non-runner after being impeded by the handler in her last race, three weeks ago and probably did too much out in front in a feature, prior to that. She was beaten by her stablemate in that feature but her form shows that she is much better than that and she could prove it today. She has a low mass of 52kgs on her back and gets the services of an in-form jockey.

Luyolo Mxothwa
Jockey: Luyolo MXOTHWA - Trainer: Gavin SMITH

FLY EMIRATES has been sparingly raced in recent outings but has excellent form, including a facile ten length feature victory, five starts ago. She was slightly disappointing when beaten into second over this c & d last time but is once again extremely well handicapped and could take a power of beat- ing. She returns from another short break but her trainer knows exactly how to bring her back well and she again gets an apprentice claim.

Race 6: PLACIDO(1) (Each Way)
Jockey: Aldo DOMEYER - Trainer: Alan GREEFF

The Greeff yard have a lively chance of landing the spoils in this contest as they send out PLACIDO and WAY CLEAR and riding engagements suggest that the latter is the stable elect. However, the former gets the nod over this ten furlong trip. He has been below-par in his last three starts and hardly surprisingly was rested for eleven weeks by his trainer. He was badly in need of his comeback run, two weeks ago but will strip much fitter today. He caught the eye late last year when he ran on nicely for third despite conceding weight to older rivals over 1800m. The son of Miesque's Approval should enjoy today's extra furlong and is well handicapped.
