Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: NERO(2)
Jockey: !Mazule D - Trainer: Gavin VAN ZYL

NERO showed improved form with blinkers when he made steady progress to finish fourth over 1700m at the Vaal, recently. He placed on this course on debut with today's workrider aboard and should have a big say in today's moderate line-up.

Race 4: PRETTY LADY(1) - TOP BET
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM - Trainer: Heather ADAMSON

The Heather Adamson team have found the perfect race for PRETTY LADY to finally exit the maiden ranks. She was below-par in soft underfoot conditions recently but was caught late in her penultimate outing. She has by some distance the best credentials in this field and has done well on this course. The daughter of Casey Tibbs gets Strydom in the irons and should take a power of beating.

Race 5: DANCE ALLEY(2)
Jockey: Fanie CHAMBERS - Trainer: St John GRAY

DANCE ALLEY is a courageous type and handled two runs inside as many days extremely well last time. The daughter of Jam Alley won her penultimate outing with plenty in hand over the Vaal 1700m. However, her next start was even more pleasing as she stepped into feature company in yielding conditions a mere two days later and finished a very creditable sixth, beaten just over four lengths. She deserved her three week break and takes a huge drop in class today. She has promising form over this c & d and should take some beating.

Mike Azzie
Race 8: EMPEROR AUGUSTUS(1)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Michael AZZIE

EMPEROR AUGUSTUS has been campaigning against far stronger opposition in features and takes a huge drop in class here. He had ultra-consistent form prior to his last start and has an affinity for this inside track. The son of Kahal deservedly concedes chunks of weight to today's opposition but gets fitted with blinkers and should handle the mass and the drop in trip.

VALUE BET FOR TODAY:

Race 6: NEW LIGHT(7) (Each Way)
Jockey: Lerato MOHAPI - Trainer: Ernie ANDERSON

There is sure to be a blistering pace in this apprentice handicap and that could play into the hands of NEW LIGHT. She was below-par when taking on stronger last time but stayed on for third, beaten 3.50 lengths behind True Imperium prior to that. Interestingly, today's likely favourite SUZI SWIFT finished runner-up in that same contest but is now 5.5kgs worse off at the weights. The top rating does prefer an extra furlong but as mentioned above the pace will suit her and she will be running on.
