Race 2: RUSHING STAR(3) - TOP BET
Jockey: Karis TEETAN - Trainer: Yvette BREMNER

RUSHING STAR has shown some promising form to date despite Arlington clearly not suiting his running style. He is a big son of Windrush that takes plenty of time to get into his top stride and he will be much better suited to this galloping track. He is drawn in midfield and could take some beating in this line-up.

Race 3: WIQAAYA(8)
Jockey: Francois HERHOLDT - Trainer: Gavin SMITH

This is a very competitive contest but WIQAAYA has been very consistent and has again drawn well. She found no extra late when third behind MISS SUNSHINE (2kgs worse off) and STORMY COAST (1.5kgs worse off) over this c & d last time but has a decent swing at the weights with these two rivals and can reverse the form.

Race 4: MEGA MEL(15)
Jockey: Xolane NDLOVU - Trainer: Alan GREEFF

The Greeff yard holds a strong hand here but the lesser fancied MEGA MEL could do the business. She has shown some useful post maiden form and only tired late after no doubt needing her comeback run over nine furlongs last time. She will strip much fitter this time around and will be a lively conten- der if reproducing the run that saw her finish just three lengths behind the classy Burlaine Forest in her penultimate outing. She has little issues with the drop in trip and will be very competitive from a decent draw.

Luyolo Mxothwa
Race 6: ALVILDA(1)
Jockey: Luyolo MXOTHWA - Trainer: Justin SNAITH

It could be the turn of the Snaith yard to dominate proceedings and they send out ALVILDA and AUDREY ROSE to contest this competitive handicap, with slight preference for the former who will get a 2.5kgs apprentice claim. The daughter of Jallad has made PE her home and she has recorded all four of her career victories on this track, the latest being the Jockey Club Stakes over this c & d, earlier this season. She has been facing much stronger in Cape Town in her last three starts and will strip fitter after needing her comeback outing. She is unbeaten from two efforts over this c & d.

VALUE BET FOR TODAY:

EAST CAPE DERBY (Gr3)
Race 8: BURLAINE FOREST(6) (Each Way)
Jockey: Warren KENNEDY - Trainer: Yvette BREMNER

A very competitive Derby as compared to last year's one-sided affair which Tribal Dance. This time around the locals have a few bright prospects, not least of all, BURLAINE FOREST from the Bremner yard. This son of Tamburlaine has done everything asked of him by his conditioner and has won four of his seven career outings. However, his most significant victory came when he beat a few of today's rivals in the Derby Plate over ten furlongs on this course, recently. He was stone last turning into the straight that day and made up considerable ground quickly and may have struck the front too soon. However, he still kept going to beat WAY CLEAR (0.50 lengths) and SKIPPYJON JONES (0.55 lengths). He is now 2kgs worse off with the latter but he is bred to love every bit of this extra distance and has strong claims of confirming the form.

The big threat though could come from the Cape based TRUE MASTER who is the mount of Strydom. The son of Jet Master has a similar record to the top rating and comes here in search of a hat-trick after he fought back well to win last time. His pedigree suggests that this trip will pose no concerns for him and he could prove to be better than rated.
