Winning Form Best Bets
Race 1: DOVER BEACH(5)
Race 2: PRINCIPLED MAN(8)
Race 4: QUANTUM LEAP(4)
Race 6: RICHARD'S GRACE(13)
Race 1: DOVER BEACH(5) - TOP BET
Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Michael AZZIE
DOVER BEACH is a decent sort and produced two promising runs over seven furlongs to date, despite having to cope with wide draws on both those occasions. The daughter of Mullins Bay has cracked a midfield draw in this contest and she could take a power of beating if she handles this course.
Race 5: DARK REIGN(1)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Mike DE KOCK
DARK REIGN as expected, relished the step-up in distance and he stayed on eye-catchingly for third over the Clairwood 2500m last time out. The runner-up hasn't won in two outings since but this son of Western Winter is having just his fourth career outing today and still has lots of scope for further improvement. He races handy so this track will suit him well and he should take some beating in this line-up.
Jockey: Marco V/RENSBURG - Trainer: Stuart PETTIGREW
WINTER DESIRE hasn't won for quite some time but he has been performing well against much stronger company. He is ideally c & d suited and holds many of today's rivals safe on the run behind Balse, three starts ago. His stable are enjoying a decent run and he must be respected here.
Race 8: FLAG OF FRANCE(8)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM - Trainer: Romeo FRANCIS
FLAG OF FRANCE tired late over a mile last time and may be at his level-best up to seven furlongs. Strydom has retained the ride on the colt and that is very encouraging. The son of The Sheik stayed on well for second in similar company in his penultimate outing, despite being drawn badly. He has placed on this course which is a big plus and he merits healthy respect from a good draw.
Jockey: Deon SAMPSON - Trainer: Louis GOOSEN
This is an interesting contest and the likely and deserved favourite, MALACHITE hails from the yard of Johan Janse van Vuuren, who incidentally enjoyed his first winner of his career at the Vaal on Tuesday. However, ANNACONDA MOON could spoil the party for the yard. This son of Victory Moon has always shown potential and needed both his comeback runs. He was comfortably beaten by the former on the run behind Dontstopmenow over six furlongs at the Vaal but will be cherry-ripe today and has the added benefit of having raced around the turn. Interestingly, he was beaten just over one length by Tellina over seven furlongs on the standside course, a few starts ago.
