Race 5: SKITT SKIZZLE(1)
Race 7: LADY TATTY(7)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: SPIAGGIA(8) - TOP BET
Jockey: Kevin SHEA - Trainer: Alec LAIRD

SPIAGGIA was given every chance but she failed to quicken when well beaten into third over this trip at Scottsville, two weeks ago. However, she may have still needed that outing but showed exactly what she is capable of when she challenged strongly and finished runner-up in a good field over this c & d, in her penultimate outing. The daughter of Elusive Quality has her third run after the layoff today and should be cherry-ripe. She jumps from a favourable draw and should make amends.

Race 4: NISA'S LOVE(1)
Jockey: Sean CORMACK - Trainer: Paul LAFFERTY

NISA'S LOVE was considered good enough to contest a Grade 1 over this trip at Greyville on Gold Cup day. She didn't fare too badly in that race after racing wide throughout and drops heavily to maiden company now. The daughter of Kahal showed promise with two useful sprints prior to that and is clearly highly rated by her conditioner. The yard has hit form in recent weeks and there should be lots more to come from this filly. She has a wide draw to overcome on her debut around the left hand turn but gets the expertise of Cormack and may prove tough to beat.

Race 5: PRINCIPLED(2)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS - Trainer: Joe SOMA

This appears a match-race between PRINCIPLED and SKITT SKIZZLE, with a slight preference for the former. The son of National Emblem has raced just three times but was impressive when leading through-out to win his maiden over seven furlongs at Turffontein at just his second career outing. He then took a big step-up to graded company but was far from disgraced when staying on for fifth in the Graham Beck Stakes over the same c & d, next time out. However, he seems to have suffered a setback and has been out of racing for 42 weeks. His trainer has opted to geld him during the break and he should have lots of improvement to come. The engaging of Marcus suggests that his conditioner will have him fit and ready and he can still pull this off.

Race 7: LADY TATTY(7)
Jockey: S'Manga KHUMALO - Trainer: Gavin VAN ZYL

LADY TATTY is a fair sort but her trainer has cleverly placed her here and she could benefit from that. Both her career wins have come on this course and she found a strong late surge to emerge victorious over 1450m in her penultimate outing. She is very well treated at the weights today and gets the services of Khumalo. The daughter of Solskjaer was outpaced in the early stages of her last start but ran on nicely at the finish and was beaten just over two lengths behind JACKODORE over this c & d. She meets her conqueror on 6.5kgs better terms this time around and has a big chance of reversing the form.

VALUE BET FOR TODAY:

Race 8: PECAN(3) (Each Way)
Jockey: Juan-Paul v.d.MERWE - Trainer: Craig EUDEY

PECAN has shown fair post maiden and represents the DAME VICTORIA formline. She lacked extra late when 4th, beaten just under three lengths by the latter last time but is now 2kgs better off and is a totally different proposition on this track. The blinkers could also make a big difference to the daughter of Strike Smartly and she has a massive chance of reversing the form. The latter was impressive in that last victory but her form on this course leaves plenty to be desired and she could be found wanting here.
