Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: SALESMAN(13)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS - Trainer: Charles LAIRD

With almost half of this field being newcomers, the market will again have to be closely followed. That said, the clear first pick of the raced runners is the son of Rebel King, SALESMAN. He has always been highly rated by his conditioner and had a fair debut over the minimum trip in early March. He then returned from a break and took a big jump in distance to a mile but wasn't disgraced when third, despite suffering a nosebleed. He endured the compulsory three month suspension and was gelded in the interim and now returns from a 17 week break. He could have lots of improvement to come and merits healthy respect.

Race 3: ACAPULCO(1)
Jockey: Sean CORMACK - Trainer: Dennis DRIER

ACAPULCO flopped badly in a feature over this c & d in soft conditions last time but drops to maiden company, once more. He showed lots of promise in juvenile company before that and was only beaten a neck into second on debut in a feature on this track. He was gelded a mere two days after that poor last effort and his trainer obviously expects plenty more from the son of Stronghold. He is the clear preference of the raced runners and it could still take a top newcomer to beat him today.

Race 4: SAKANIA(1)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS - Trainer: G/K ANTHONY

SAKANIA was very disappointing when she moved up menacingly but tired badly into fourth over seven furlongs at Scottsville, three weeks ago. However, she can be forgiven that effort as it was her first on that inside course and she obviously didn't enjoy it. She almost made all over this c & d in her penultimate outing and holds many of today's rivals safe on that run. It is very encouraging that Marcus retains the ride on the daughter of Mon Sang and she could bounce back to her best form here.

Jockey: Alec FORBES - Trainer: Duncan HOWELLS

The sprint sensation VIA AFRICA makes her seasonal debut in what is likely to be another very success- ful campaign. She had an excellent three-year old season that yielded 5 wins and 2 seconds from 7 starts, including a Grade 1 effort at Scottsville, last time out. She won't be fully wound up here but should still have too much class for this field.

Race 7: MUSIC PASS(8) (Each Way)
Jockey: Athandiwe MGUDLWA - Trainer: Alistair GORDON

MUSIC PASS likes this long run-in and she showed improvement when only tiring late against stronger over this c & d, three weeks ago. She drops in class here and will be cherry ripe and can cause the upset.
