The Travelers Championship 2017 Preview

Travelers Championship. Championship 2017 Preview

Our golf scribe previews this week's PGA Tour event, the Travelers Championship.

So, in the wake of a US Open that courted controversy for completely antithetical reasons to what was imagined - it was generally felt that the fairways were too generous and never presented enough of a challenge - the players head to one of the most birdie-friendly courses on the entire calendar: TPC River Highlands. The course has attracted an amazing field despite being in that post-Major malaise stage. Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy and Jason Day will all feel that they have something to prove after US Open displays that ranged from the disappointing to the absurd.

US Open 2017 Preview

2017-US-Open-Betting-Preview

Our golf scribe runs the rule over the second Major of the year, the US Open.

The USGA has come under intense scrutiny in recent years for the manner in which it has been organised. As far back as Shinnecock Hills, the organisers have been abused for making the course overly punitive, eliminating potential low-scoring and essentially rendering it a battle of survival. Spieth’s victory at Chamber’s Bay in 2015 came amidst consternation as the greens seemed to be made out of concrete. Fed Ex St Jude Classic 2017 Preview

Our golf scribe previews this week's PGA Tour event, the Fed Ex St Jude Classic.

As one would rightly expect, there is a slightly more open field this week with only eight of the world’s top 30 competing this week. Rickie Fowler missed out at Muirfield in a rain-affected opening round, but the Honda Classic winner deserves his place at the head of the markets this week. He will be desperate to get some fine tuning ahead of a push for that long-awaited first major.

Dean and Deluca Invitational 2017 Preview

Wells Fargo Championship 2017 Preview

Our golf scribe previews this week's PGA Tour event, the Dean and Deluca.

Billy Horschel’s emotional victory at the Byron Nelson exemplified the level of dedication and sacrifice that these players put in, showing that these millionaire sharpshooters are just as vulnerable to the vagaries of life as anyone. The players head to Colonial this week for the Dean and Deluca Invitational. The Colonial has played host to the event in its different guises since 1946, making it the second longest running event played on a single course (after the Masters) on the PGA Tour. So it’s fair to say that this is a tournament rich with history. Ben Hogan actually won the first two renewals, before going on to win a further three times in the 50’s - explaining why Colonial is often affectionately referred to as ‘Hogan’s Alley’.
