Jockey: Brandon LERENA - Trainer: Tony RIVALLAND

With exactly two-thirds of this 18 horse maiden field being unraced, things are very tricky and the betting market must be closely monitored. The clear first pick of the raced runners is HIGHWAY EXPLOR- ER from the Rivalland yard. This imported son of Mossman was green on his fair debut over this c & d but made the expected improvement when he fought hard before going down half a length into 2nd, next time out. He found steady betting support in both those efforts, suggesting that he is showing good work back home. The concern is that he returns from a 16 week break but would have strengthened during that time and can make experience count.

BELOVED COUNTRY is a smart sort with a very good record and she will be cherry-ripe on her third run after the rest. She was outrun late into 3rd by her subsequent feature winning stable companion over this trip on the polytrack last time and is best in on official ratings. She should go close in this line-up.

Race 5: MR WHATEVER(2)
Jockey: Stuart RANDOLPH - Trainer: Pat LUNN

This is a very competitive pinnacle stakes contest with some interesting entrants. MR WHATEVER loves this c & d and he brings good recent form into this event. He may have just needed his comeback run on the polytrack and will strip fitter. He isn't too badly in at the weights and should give another good account of himself.

Jockey: Muzi YENI - Trainer: Mike DE KOCK

SCOTSNOG showed good improvement when he ran on well for a close 3rd over six furlongs on the polytrack, second time out. He has been out of action for 14 weeks since but would have strengthened during the layoff and will love the step-up to the mile on his pedigree. His conditioner usually gets his charges fit and ready and this son of Kildonan should have lots more to offer.

Jockey: Mathew THACKERAY - Trainer: Des EGDES

MALTED AND BOLTED is unbeaten from two starts over this c & d and he has his third run after the rest today. He beat subsequent winners easily in his penultimate outing and should go very close in this line-up. The son of Right Approach will be aided by a 4kgs apprentice allowance.
