Magic Tips Best Bets
Jockey: Luyolo MXOTHWA - Trainer: Grant PADDOCK
ROCKET RIDER is a most interesting acquistion to the PE ranks. The former Cape inmate showed good ability over staying trips in that province and was overdue his maiden victory. He stayed on for a close 3rd over nine furlongs at Kenilworth last time and the runner-up gave that form a major lift when winning easily last Wednesday. This son of Jet Master may not be a star but he certainly had a win in him, in the Cape. The obvious worry is why he has relocated, particularly as his two comeback runs have been solid. Having said all that, he could prefer racing on the polytrack and if he has acclimatized to the local conditions, then he will be far too good for his maiden rivals. Furthermore, his new yard has come to form in recent weeks.
Race 2: JUDGE JUDY(1)
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE - Trainer: Alan GREEFF
JUDGE JUDY is still lightly raced and she produced her career best effort over 1900m on this course, five weeks ago. The Greeff inmate was having her second run after a rest that day but she ran on nice- ly to finish a close-up 3rd, beaten just over half a length at the line. She has exactly half a length to find with today's likely favourite PATENT OF NOBILITY on that run but has more scope than that rival and she is 1kg better off. She has her third run after the layoff and merits healthy respect.
Race 7: THE BEAT(4) - TOP BET
Jockey: Richard FOURIE - Trainer: Justin SNAITH
THE BEAT has some work to do at the weights but he probably didn't stay the mile in his last feature start and showed tons of promise prior to that. He sprints very well and his only career win came on this surface. The Snaith inmate has lots of speed to handle the minimum trip and he should give a very good account of himself.
Race 8: GALAXY GOLD(2)
Jockey: Karl ZECHNER - Trainer: Dorrie SHAM
GALAXY GOLD made a winning local debut when she kept going to win over 1900m on this surface and that form has worked out well. She hasn't raced for 12 weeks since but has obvious ability and has acclima- tized well. She races fresh after that break and the 1300m will be no issue for the daughter of Global One. Her handy draw is a definite plus.
Jockey: Kendall MINNIE - Trainer: Alan GREEFF
BLACK THUNDER seems to have a preference for this c & d and he made big improvement when equipped with blinkers in his latest outing. The Alan Greeff inmate set the pace that day and only tired late after having to ease. He was beaten just over two lengths by TOSS THE DICE but meets his conqueror on 1.5kgs better terms and can certainly finish much closer.
