Jockey: Brandon LERENA - Trainer: Mark DIXON

This is a competitive opening contest and THE POET gets the narrow first verdict. He has done well since his poor debut and his comeback run was very pleasing on his polytrack debut over this c & d, three weeks ago. The son of Brave Tin Soldier pushed the short-priced favourite hard in the closing stages and only failed by half a length at the wire. The bay colt was in turn 5.50 lengths clear of the 3rd placed finisher and will strip much fitter this evening. He is unfortunately drawn wide but gets the in-form services of Brandon Lerena and should still go close.

Jockey: Sean CORMACK - Trainer: Dennis DRIER

The extremely well-related Dennis Drier inmate, TRICK drifted alarmingly in the betting market but still produced an eye-catching debut over this c & d, recently. She was slow into stride and raced hopelessly green but found her best stride late and finished strongly for 2nd, beaten just over one length in a competitive event. The daughter of Trippi would have tightened up from that performance and she should make natural improvement with racing. She is drawn in pole tonight and should take a power of beating.

Jockey: Warren KENNEDY - Trainer: Kumaran NAIDOO

ROYALSECURITYBABY has come extremely well in her last few starts and she has turned her career around since trying the polytrack. Her last two runs over this c & d have been excellent and despite the resultant three pound penalty for her last effort, the daughter of Choisir has strong claims tonight. Her wide draw isn't an issue as she usually finishes strongly.

Jockey: Callan MURRAY - Trainer: Charles LAIRD

MALREBELLIO was outclassed against some quality sorts last time but it didn't help that the son of Rebel King was having his second run inside two days. He clearly deserved the nine week break and the Charles Laird inmate had useful post maiden handicap form, prior to that. He drops in class tonight and should go extremely well from pole position. He had two fair performances with this 2.5kgs claimi- ng apprentice aboard.

Jockey: Keagan DE MELO - Trainer: Doug CAMPBELL

This is another competitive handicap but the smart three-year old SECRET ADMIRER makes her handicap debut. The daughter of Admire Main is most effective when ridden from off the pace and she has shown a particular affinity for this surface. She ran on smartly to win her maiden over 1900m last time and has lots of scope for improvement. She will prefer this slightly shorter trip and with 53kgs on her back and a top young jockey aboard, she should be very competitive, despite the steep rise in class.
