Race 4: DOWN UNDER(8)
Jockey: Derreck DAVID - Trainer: Gavin VAN ZYL

DOWN UNDER is an improving sort who could still train on into something decent. He has taken a while to shed his maiden tag but has met some quality sorts along the way and has been poorly drawn in both his Highveld efforts. However, the son of Fort Wood still showed his massive potential as he finished close-up in both those mile runs, the penultimate of which came on this inside course. He will be cherry-ripe on his third run back from a break and should enjoy this extra furlong. The Van Zyl inmate has finally cracked a good draw and should take a power of beating.

Jockey: Juan-Paul v.d.MERWE - Trainer: Alec LAIRD

EARL OF DERBY has improved his formline in recent weeks and he was far from disgraced in the Summer Cup over ten furlongs last time. He once again proved his love for soft underfoot conditions when he ran on strongly for 2nd in a Grade 2 event over nine furlongs in his penultimate start. The son of National Assembly takes a huge drop in class here and he is extremely well treated at the weights. His last victory came over this c & d in a listed event and he should go very close in this line-up.

Jockey: Derreck DAVID - Trainer: Paul PETER

LONDON is a smart three-year old filly who may have not just yet been up to the standard of feature company last time. She was beaten just under seven lengths that day but will be much more productive in today's handicap contest. The daughter of Rebel King produced two cracking efforts on this course prior to that and she will have no issues with the mile. She is drawn in midfield and will go very close.

Race 10: KARA(10)
Jockey: Weichong MARWING - Trainer: Alec LAIRD

KARA has produced two smart efforts to date and she has plenty of scope for improvement. She handled the turn well when she set her own pace and fought on doggedly before being beaten a neck into 2nd in her last start over seven furlongs on the standside track. This inside course could suit the daughter of Kahal extremely well and she has lots of scope for improvement. She should take a power of beating in this field.

Jockey: Marco V/RENSBURG - Trainer: Gavin VAN ZYL

PEPE flopped badly when equipped with blinkers in a workrider's contest last time but had made eye catching late headway in his two prior efforts. The headgear has been removed today which comes as no surprise and the son of Kabool has scope for decent improvement. He should enjoy this nine furlongs and can stake a serious claim from pole position. He has his third run after the layoff.
