Jockey: Juan-Paul v.d.MERWE - Trainer: Michael AZZIE

VANCOUVER GOLD made an eye-catching debut when she stayed on for a decent 4th in a competitive line-up over this c & d, four weeks ago. That form was franked by the 3rd placed runner By Jove who won subsequently and this daughter of Var would have come on with that experience. She represents an in form combination and deserves lots of respect.

Jockey: Piere STRYDOM - Trainer: Sean TARRY

BULLETING HOME is a smart sort but he was handed a thrashing on his sand debut over this trip, three weeks ago. He certainly seems to prefer the turf though and produced a classy penultimate display over this c & d behind an above-average sort, despite being poorly drawn. The son of Western Winter has lots of improvement to come and he should go very close from a good draw. The only concern is how he will fare under the lights.

Race 5: AVENUE(6)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Michael AZZIE

AVENUE made the expected improvement when the blinkers were removed last time. She only lacked extra late when finishing 3rd over 1700m at the Vaal that day and has room for further improvement. Her pole position barrier is a major plus and Gavin Lerena has ridden her before. She should go very close in this field.

Jockey: Piere STRYDOM - Trainer: Roy MAGNER

GREASEPAINT continues to be a revelation since being gelded and he was defeated for the first time in three runs since that operation, recently. He showed his blistering speed in that competitive field that day and was only caught late over the 1160m. He is clearly most effective over the minimum trip and drops in class tonight. The son of Kahal won his penultimate outing under 61.5kgs so should have no issues with this big mass and he will take a power of beating.

Jockey: Francois HERHOLDT - Trainer: Alec LAIRD

This is a competitive fillies and mares handicap with some useful types and an exciting finish is on the cards. SWEETWATER bounced back to her best when she was outrun by a subsequent winner over 1700m at the Vaal, five weeks ago. That effort earned her a three pound penalty but she is well handicapped in this field and has enjoyed some success against similar types before.
