Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: CARMINA(6)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE - Trainer: Justin SNAITH

Exactly half of this field of eight juveniles have raced before and they could make their experience count. CARMINA is likely to go off as a short-priced favourite after the Snaith inmate produced a promising debut over 800m, recently. Interestingly, she wasn't the stable elect and went off at long odds that day, but the daughter of Var overcame a slow start and ran on strongly at the finish. She was beaten half a length into 2nd at the wire and today's extra furlong will suit her perfectly.

Jockey: Aldo DOMEYER - Trainer: Yogas GOVENDER

UPPER ECHELON has shown promise in her four starts to date but she has also been a little costly to follow. She was disappointing when well beaten into 3rd over seven furlongs last time after trying blinkers. The headgear remains on today but the drop to this stiff six furlongs could be exactly what she is looking for. The daughter of Captain Al has faced much stronger than today's opposition and she can get it right.

Race 7: GULF STORM(2)
Jockey: Bernard FAYD'HERBE - Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD

GULF STORM is consistent and he showed plenty of determination when he fought back doggedly to win his last start over this c & d, four weeks ago. That earned him the minimum two pound penalty but he will be cherry-ripe on his third run after the rest and must have strong claims of following up.

Race 4: FORLAN(3) (Each Way)

There are some well-bred potential stayers who could make big improvement in this contest and an exciting finish is on the cards. FORLAN has been crying out for this ground and he made late progress in each of his last two starts over shorter. He is out of a champion staying mare and could make big improvement today. Furthermore, he will enjoy the long run-in to the line.
