Magic Tips Best Bets

Jockey: Francois NAUDE - Trainer:  Corne SPIES

The Corne' Spies yard is well represented in this conditions plate and the grey gelding KISS ME HARDY is the right one from the stable's trio. The son of Captain Al has trained on during his three-year old career and he loves the sand. He crushed weak rivals in Kimberley last time but is capable against stronger opposition and he is best weighted today. His pedigree suggests that he will handle the mile.

Race 4: SUB SHAAWES(5)
Jockey: Marco V/RENSBURG - Trainer: Stuart PETTIGREW

SUB SHAAWES is finally realizing his true potential and he comes here in search of a hat-trick after easily winning his handicap debut in a similar contest over this c & d, recently. The Pettigrew inmate was handed a five pound penalty for his troubles but still has plenty more improvement to come and represents a red-hot yard. He is well drawn and merits healthy respect.

Race 7: EXCALIVAR(7)
Jockey: Derreck DAVID - Trainer: Alec LAIRD

EXCALIVAR is holding his form really well on the sand and could be rewarded today. He is probably best over this six furlongs and should go very close from another good draw.

Jockey: Raymond DANIELSON - Trainer: Sean TARRY

BOLD APPROACH has shown lots of promise and she loves racing on this surface. She has won 3 of her last 5 starts. The Tarry inmate dug deep under a big mass to beat the four-year colt BATTLE OF ALMA going away over this c & d, two weeks ago. She may have escaped with a four pound penalty and despite being 1kg worse off with the latter, the top selection has strong claims of following up. Speaking of the latter, he has a decent c & d record and will be cherry-ripe on his third run after the layoff today.

Race 6: CRYSTAL'S REVENGE(8) (Each Way)
Jockey: Raymond DANIELSON - Trainer: Sean TARRY

CRYSTAL'S REVENGE was dealt a cruel blow when the surface was changed for her last outing. She is clearly most effective on the sand but was asked to compete on the turf last time. The daughter of Dynasty was naturally disappointing but was reportedly not striding out. She had a cracking sand record before that and enjoys this c & d. She shoulders a handy galloping mass and should handle this rise in class.
