Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: CITY EXPRESS(6)
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE - Trainer: Alan GREEFF

Just 3 of the 7 juveniles on display in this opening contest have raced before but they could make their experience count. The trio represent the Juan Two Three formline over this c & d and CITY EXPRESS fared best of all behind her highly regarded stablemate that day. She was 2nd best though, finishi- ng 5.50 lengths adrift at the wire and was slightly disappointing when only managing a weak 4th next time out. Still, the daughter of King's Chapel has scope for further improvement and her yard has continued their decent run of form.

Race 5: CHARLES LYTTON(1)
Jockey: Grant V/NIEKERK - Trainer: Justin SNAITH

The Cape visitor CHARLES LYTTON had outstanding form before he was probably outclassed at Grade 1 level in the Guineas over a mile at Kenilworth last time. He showed versatility and class prior to that and is extremely well treated by the weights in this three-year old contest. The obvious concerns are how he has travelled and whether he will handle the right hand turn but purely on ability, he should prove extremely hard to beat.

Race 7: MERCURIAL BRAVE(7)
Jockey: Raymond DANIELSON - Trainer: Tara LAING

This is an interesting non-black type handicap which could be dominated by the Tara Laing duo of MERCURIAL BRAVE and RED BARREL. The stable jockey Raymond Danielson has opted for the former who had an encouraging local debut and gets the first verdict. The son of Jet Master stayed on well for 3rd in that comeback effort over seven furlongs on this track and he now meets the latter on 2.5kgs better terms for that 2.75 lengths beating. He will strip fitter and is even better over the mile. There is a strong possibility of a lack of pace and this five-year old gelding could be allowed to dictate terms.
