Race 3: MUNAASEB(3)
Race 5: SANFONEIRO(1)
Magic Tips Best Bets
Jockey: Muzi YENI - Trainer: Renate DU PLESSIS
The sole filly in this opening maiden event, IDEAL COUNTESS has produced some solid form and she gets the narrow first verdict with Muzi Yeni in the irons. The three-year old daughter of Count Dubois has done well in PE and Cape Town and is at her best over this minimum trip. She tries this surface for the first time but will be aided by a good draw and merits healthy respect. She receives her sex allowance and will give the boys a run for their money.
Race 2: CHEEKY QUESTION(1)
Jockey: Stallone NAIDOO - Trainer: Yvette BREMNER
CHEEKY QUESTION was disappointing when she tired badly over 1300m on this track recently but that form was given a lift by the runner-up who won subsequently. This bay filly showed promise in her two prior polytrack attempts and she produced her career best effort when beaten a neck into 2nd over this c & d in her penultimate outing. The drop to the minimum distance will suit her perfectly today and she will go close from pole position.
Race 4: ASPEN WINTER(5)
Jockey: Muzi YENI - Trainer: Glen KOTZEN
ASPEN WINTER has been a revelation on this surface and she has kept her form very well. She was given a polished ride when she drew off to easily beat EVENING ROSE in a similar handicap over 1900m, four weeks ago. The Kotzen inmate was returning from a short nine week break and she will strip fitter. She picked up a five pound penalty but can still stake a serious claim despite being 3kgs worse off with the runner-up.
Race 7: SEATTLE STORM(2) - TOP BET
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE - Trainer: Alan GREEFF
SEATTLE STORM has dropped considerably in the ratings and seems to have reached a competitive mark. He began his career with plenty of promise but suffered many setbacks and he has competed against far stronger opposition. The Greeff inmate showed a welcome return to form when he finished strongly for 2nd behind his stablemate Strong Man Sam over 1300m on this track, two weeks ago. He escaped without a penalty for that improved last effort and could take full advantage of that. The four-year old gelding is drawn in pole today and has strong claims of going one better.
Jockey: Robert KHATHI - Trainer: Justin SNAITH
SET ME FREE showed plenty of determination as she fought on doggedly to win a competitive affair over this c & d, six weeks ago. That earned her a four pound penalty but she is still 1.5kgs better off with subsequent winner FACINATING FILLY and she has more to offer, particularly on this surface. The five-year old mare should handle the rise in class and has a handy galloping mass of 53.5kgs.
