Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 3: DARK ROSE(1)
Jockey: Donovan DILLON - Trainer: Doug CAMPBELL

DARK ROSE is lightly raced and has taken extremely well to the polytrack. She finished close-up in her last two c & d appearances and is clearly the one to beat in a moderate line-up. She is well drawn at gate 4 and has lots of scope for improvement.

Race 4: HASSEN'S BID(1)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS - Trainer: Dennis DRIER

HASSEN'S BID is effective on both surfaces and he has improved since his 17 week break. He was outrun late into 2nd over a mile on this course two weeks ago and now has his third run after the layoff. The 3rd placed finisher did the form little favour when well beaten next time out but this son of Greys Inn could really prefer this slight drop in distance and he meets a weak field. He has room for improvement and Anton Marcus has ridden him before.

Race 7: CANDY MOON(2)
Jockey: Ian STURGEON - Trainer: Paul GADSBY

CANDY MOON continues to produce the goods and he is best in on official ratings here. The five-year old gelding had it all to do from a poor draw over a mile on this track in a feature last time but he still made eye-catching late progress to finish 4th, beaten just over three lengths. This ten furlongs is right up his alley and he should take a power of beating. He has a good turn of foot so the likely sedate gallop won't harm his chances.

Race 8: AFRICAN DREAM(1) - TOP BETJockey: Keagan DE MELO - Trainer: Mark DIXON

This is another exciting contest to end the day's proceedings. The weights suggest a match-race between AFRICAN DREAM and LITTLEBLACKNUMBER and the former is a strong first preference with regular pilot Keagan de Melo in the irons. The daughter of Mogok hasn't raced for 12 weeks since she was reportedly not striding out in a Gauteng feature. She showed loads of class prior to that and ran a good 2nd behind a subsequent feature winner over this trip on the polytrack in her penultimate run. She is treated best of all by the weights and should take some beating.

Race 6: LAKE ARTHUR(3) (Each Way)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH - Trainer: Yogas GOVENDER

Only a small field of eight runners go to post for this non-black type handicap but it should be competitive and an exciting finish is on the cards. LAKE ARTHUR returns from a 19 week break but he has competed with relative success in top company. He has a decent course record and interestingly Delpech partnered him to a good 2nd over this trip on the polytrack, prior to the layoff. The son of Jet Master is drawn well and should be involved.
