Magic Tips Best Bets

Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE - Trainer: Darryl HODGSON

NATATELA has benefitted from the break and she has bounced right back to her best in her two comeback runs. She was runner-up behind a subsequent winner over this c & d in her penultimate outing and was pipped on the post over a mile last Saturday. Her jockey opted not to use the whip in the final furlong and that seemed to cost the daughter of Black Minnaloushe victory. It is concerning that she races so soon but Fortune climbs back aboard and will be looking to make amends on the chestnut filly. She will be cherry-ripe on her third run after the rest.

Jockey: Karl NEISIUS - Trainer: Mike BASS

The seven-year old gelding CASTLETHORPE never shaped in a Grade 1 over the minimum trip last time but his penultimate run proved that he hasn't lost any zest for racing. The Mike Bass inmate was his customary slow-starting self but flew at the finish and was beaten only a neck at the wire. He had today's rival HAPPY FOREVER only a neck further behind but the top selection is more at home over this extra furlong and he can confirm the form.

Race 6: KING OF PAIN(1)
Jockey: Bernard FAYD'HERBE - Trainer: Joey RAMSDEN

This is an intriguing renewal of the now-called Cape Mile and defending champion KING OF PAIN takes his place in this line-up. The top-weighted five-year old gelding appears to have suffered a setback after his good 2nd behind star colt Futura in the Grade 1 Champions Cup at Greyville last season. He has been out of action for 30 weeks but races well fresh and many will remember his brilliant start to finish win in the Grade 1 Gold Challenge in his comeback run over a mile at Clairwood in June last year. There isn't any natural pacesetter here and the Greys Inn gelding could make all the running and profit. He gets his regular pilot Fayd'Herbe in the saddle and can defy top weight of 62kgs. His rivals are close to him at the weights but aren't anywhere in the class of the top selection.

Race 7: RED FLAME(5)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE - Trainer: Neil BRUSS

The four-year olds RED FLAME and LANNER FALCON are best in at the weights in this graded contest and they look set to fight out the finish. The pair are classy individuals who represent the Inara formli- ne of the Grade 1 Majorca Stakes run over a mile on the last day of January. The former raced wide from a poor draw that day but still ran on strongly to finish 4th, beaten just over two lengths at the line. The daughter of Jet Master is versatile and her good barrier makes her a huge contender today. She represents an in-form pair.

Race 5: OLIM DIVES(9) (Each Way)
Jockey: Francois HERHOLDT - Trainer: Adam MARCUS

There should be a decent gallop in this competitive handicap and the lightweight OLIM DIVES could be the right one. The Overlord gelding is versatile but it does appear that he could be at his level-best over the mile. He bounced right back to form when he finished strongly for a close 3rd over this c & d two weeks ago. The Adam Marcus inmate takes on stronger but he is much better drawn and jumps from a good draw. He gets the services of visiting jockey Francois Herholdt.
