Magic Tips Best Bets
Jockey: Grant V/NIEKERK - Trainer: Mike BASS
SMART D'ARGENT had one flop in a workrider's contest, from his last few runs and he produced his career best effort over this c & d, three weeks ago. He overraced in the early stages of that event but was gaining strongly at the finish when beaten a neck into 2nd. Admittedly, he does take on stron- ger now but will have more to offer and can go one better from his pole position barrier.
Race 3: VOGUE'S WOOD(10) - TOP BET
Jockey: Bernard FAYD'HERBE - Trainer: Mike BASS
VOGUE'S AWARD will rather interestingly be ridden by Fayd'Herbe today whilst the stable jockey from the Mike Bass team sits on the bench. Anyway, this extremely well-related daughter of the recently deceased Fort Wood has shown ability in her two starts to date. She had excuses for her below-par last start over this c & d but the break would have helped her cause and there is lots more to come. She is drawn in pole and gets the verdict. That said, she will have stiff competition from FEAR NOT from the Adam Marcus yard.
Race 6: HENRY OF YORK(3)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE - Trainer: Darryl HODGSON
HENRY OF YORK disappointed in his last start but that was from a poor draw against stronger and he is gradually dropping in the ratings. That formline hasn't worked out well but he had some useful form prior to that and his good draw makes him a major contender here. He gets Fortune in the irons and can get that overdue second career win.
Race 7: PETTY OFFICER(3)
Jockey: Karl NEISIUS - Trainer: Greg ENNION
PETTY OFFICER runs well for Karl Neisius and she is holding her form. She ran above expectations when finishing a decent 4th in a conditions affair over seven furlongs last time and the mile suits her well. She drops in class and has a strong finish so her wide draw isn't an issue.
Jockey: Corne ORFFER - Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD
WITCHERY has shown encouraging signs in recent efforts and her two comeback sprints have been pleasing The daughter of Judpot has her issues but she was impressive when shedding her maiden tag over seven furlongs during the KZN winter. She should relish the step-up to the mile on her third run after the rest and is a big contender.
