Magic Tips Best Bets

Jockey: Alec FORBES - Trainer: Alistair GORDON

ROY'S GUARDIAN went off at long odds but produced an eye-catching debut over this c & d, three weeks ago. She was slow into stride and after being cramped at the 400m mark, she still finished strongly and was beaten just three parts of a length into 2nd at the line. That experience would have brought the daughter of Rebel King on and she must be respected.

Jockey: Stuart RANDOLPH - Trainer: Pat LUNN

ALL TRUE MAN has shown promise on both KZN surfaces and he is the form choice here. He finished a good 2nd in his only c & d effort and transferred that form to the polytrack in his last two outings. The Tiger Ridge gelding is due his maiden victory and he should get it right today.

Race 4: TIPTOL(2)
Jockey: Stuart RANDOLPH - Trainer: Duncan HOWELLS

TIPTOL has shown improved form since returning from an eleven week break and she will be cherry-ripe on her third run after the layoff. She stayed on to finish in the money in her last two outings over this c & d and the form of that latest effort has worked out extremely well. The Silvano filly should continue to progress and she should go very close in this contest.

Jockey: Anton MARCUS - Trainer: Charles LAIRD

SPLIT THE BREEZE seemed to find the mile beyond reach when he weakened after racing handy in a feature at Greyville last time out. The Brave Tin Soldier colt has always shown that he prefers sprinting and he crushed his rivals over this trip in his penultimate run. He returns from another layoff and must be strongly considered.

Race 5: PHONETIC(9) (Each Way)
Jockey: Muzi YENI - Trainer: Dennis BOSCH

This is a very competitive fillies and mares handicap that features some useful types. PHONETIC gets the narrow first verdict after she showed signs of a form return in her comeback run. She was her customary slow-starting self but finished strongly for a close 3rd over this trip on the grass at Greyville, six weeks ago. She may have still just needed the outing and will be cherry-ripe today. The four-year old filly should enjoy the likely blistering pace and she should be finishing the race of strongly. She is well handicapped against her younger compatriots.
