Magic Tips Best Bets

Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Geoff WOODRUFF

The Geoff Woodruff yard holds a strong hand in this competitive opening contest but Gavin Lerena's ride DESERT DESTINY gets the nod. This lightly raced daughter of Go Deputy is improving steadily and she should have finished much closer in her comeback run over a mile at the Vaal, six weeks ago. She ran on well for 2nd behind a subsequent winner in her penultimate outing and should be fitter today. This extra furlong will suit the chestnut filly and she can make amends.

Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Geoff WOODRUFF

MASTER SWITCH could hand the Gavin Lerena/Geoff Woodruff combination a quick double. This well-bred son of Jet Master was quietly fancied on debut over a mile on this course, two weeks ago and he produced a cracking performance. The bay colt was drawn in midfield and he ran on strongly for 2nd beaten half a length behind his stable companion. He would have come on with that experience and should relish this extra furlong. His pole barrier position is a major plus.

Jockey: Piere STRYDOM - Trainer: Alec LAIRD

AMAZING STRIKE had a fairly successful juvenile campaign but probably failed to train on this term. Still, he was competing against the best of his generation and would have benefitted from his 12 week break. The Ideal World gelding drops heavily in class and he is best in on official ratings. He shed his maiden tag impressively over this c & d and he can bounce right back to his best form today.

Race 9: TALCA(14)
Jockey: Gunter WROGEMANN - Trainer: Robbie SAGE

TALCA is well-related and he has shown ability in his two runs thus far. The son of Kahal made the expected improvement when he set the pace from a wide draw and stayed on for 2nd over seven furlongs on the standside course last time out. He would have strengthened during his nine week absence and there should be lots more improvement to come. Of course, the bay gelding has experience on this track and that will be a huge plus.

Race 6: KISSIMMEE(3) (Each Way)
Jockey: Ian STURGEON - Trainer: Michael AZZIE

KISSIMMEE was poor at pinnacle level last time but showed lots of promise prior to that. She is a versatile sort who has a decent record on this track and she could take advantage of a recent three pound drop in her rating.
