Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 3: MAGIC TRIP(4)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Geoff WOODRUFF

MAGIC TRIP is a really smart sort in the making and his workmanlike last sand maiden victory belies his true ability. The Geoff Woodruff inmate will be a different proposition on the grass and he produ- ced a classy debut over this c & d in early December. The Trippi gelding has lots more to offer and he is ahead of the handicapper. He should handle the rise in class and will take some beating on his handicap debut, despite taking on some hard-knocking older rivals.

Race 5: WHATALADY(2)
Jockey: Weichong MARWING - Trainer:  Stanley FERREIRA

WHATALADY has always given the indication that she is a classy sort and she is now confirming her earlier progress. The well-related daughter of Jet Master recently completed a hat-trick of wins with a top class performance at pinnacle level over this c & d. She produced a strong finish to easily beat the much improved EUPHORIA by two lengths and now meets that rival on 2kgs worse terms. However, she still has lots more scope for improvement and she is still ahead of the handicapper, despite her six pound penalty.

Jockey: Piere STRYDOM - Trainer: Sean TARRY

SIREN'S CALL is top class and only her natural ability carried her through when she finished strongly to beat her stablemate TROPHY WIFE over seven furlongs in a feature, three weeks ago. The daughter of Elusive Fort will strip fitter and she is much more effective over a mile. The Sean Tarry inmate is drawn midfield and she is headed for the top.

Race 9: AKII BUA(4)
Jockey: Raymond DANIELSON - Trainer: Mike DE KOCK

The Mike de Kock yard has a decent record in these staying events and AKII BUA looks set to continue that trend. The son of Encosta De Lago has flattered to deceive on many occasions but he showed his true ability when stepping up in distance last time out. The four-year old gelding was moved on too soon by his jockey and though he just held on to beat S'IL VOUS PLAIT by a short head over 2400m at the Vaal that day, he did show an excellent turn of foot. He meets the runner-up on similar weight terms and despite receiving the maximum six pound penalty, he still has plenty more to offer in these staying events and could be ahead of the handicapper.

Race 6: HALVE THE DEFICIT(1) (Each Way)
Jockey: S'manga KHUMALO - Trainer: Sean TARRY

This is an intriguing Grade 2 event and the CHEKILLI formline over this c & d could be the one to follow. HALVE THE DEFICIT was badly in need of that performance after returning from a 28 week break but he stayed on for 2nd, beaten just under four lengths by the former. He is only 1.5kgs better off at the weights but will strip much fitter this time around and should be an entirely different propos- ition. The former was impressive in that start to finish victory but things could be much tougher this time around.
