Race 2: CEDAR WOOD(1)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: CEDAR WOOD(1)
Jockey: S'manga KHUMALO - Trainer: Sean TARRY

CEDAR WOOD is an interesting entrant as he reverts to sprinting after a long time. The Tarry inmate has been consistent on both surfaces, albeit he is costly to follow. He has finished runner-up in both his sand appearances and could stake a serious claim from a good draw. His jockey will set him alight early and the gelding should stay on well.

Race 4: TARENTUM(7)
Jockey: Ian STURGEON - Trainer: Grant MAROUN

This is a very moderate contest and plenty of caution must be exercised. TARENTUM has had enough chances but she has been good on this surface in her last two starts and gets the verdict. The four year old filly made some improvement, albeit she was a distant 3rd over six furlongs behind Forest View. It must be noted that that was against male rivals and the daughter of Caesour had another satisfactory performance on this course on 05/02. She finished 2nd best over six furlongs last Thursday and does give the indication that she will handle this trip. It must also be noted that she was carded to race at Turffontein on 10/02 so her progress there must be monitored.

Race 5: TOMMY GUN(1) - TOP BET
Jockey: Fanie CHAMBERS - Trainer: Corne SPIES

The Corne' Spies yard holds a strong hand in this Pinnacle Stakes event and the drop in trip will suit the top selection TOMMY GUN. This son of Sail From Seattle enjoyed his finest moment when he thrashed his opposition in the Grade 2 Emerald Cup over this c & d, last year. He seems at his best up to this trip and only weakened late behind his stablemate ALL THE BIDS over a mile, three weeks ago. He is once again best in on official ratings and can definitely reverse the form over this distance.

Race 6: TIP A CHAMPION(10)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Joe SOMA

This is another wide open handicap but there was plenty to like about TIP A CHAMPION's last effort over this c & d in much stronger company. The Windrush gelding has his issues so it came as no surprise to see him enjoy this surface in that last start. He was equipped with blinkers for the first time and he stayed on well for 3rd at conditions level. The Joey Soma inmate finished behind top sand performers All The Bids and Tommy Gun and it could be worth keeping tabs on the latter pairing who ran in the previous race. Gavin Lerena's mount takes a big drop in class and he should go very well in this line-up.

Race 7: CELTIC HEROINE(8) (Each Way)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM - Trainer: David RAHILLY

CELTIC HEROINE has been poor in her last few starts but she continues to drop in the ratings and her career best performances have come on this surface. Her conditioner has found the perfect race for her to get back to form and the engaging of Strydom suggests that she will be ready. Her good draw is an obvious plus and it helps that her yard had a double at the last sand meeting.
