Magic Tips Best Bets

Jockey: Gunter WROGEMANN - Trainer: Brian WIID

PANCHATANTA is a smart type who has some niggles and she has been below-par in her last two starts. She may have needed her comeback run though and the daughter of Ideal World will strip fitter. She had a promising effort in her only sand appearance and could go very close in today's ordinary field. Interestingly though, her regular pilot Gavin Lerena has opted for the Mike de Kock trained filly, TUTTA MAGEE who makes her sand debut.

Race 3: ARABIAN BAY(4)
Jockey: Sherman BROWN - Trainer: Gary ALEXANDER

ARABIAN BAY is a long-time maiden but he is effective on the sand and produced a tidy last effort in handicap company. He raced handy before finishing 2nd best behind a smart sort over this c & d. The son of Mullins Bay now faces maiden class and should go close with another good draw.

Race 8: JADE VINE(1)
Jockey: S'manga KHUMALO - Trainer: Sean TARRY

The Sean Tarry yard holds a strong hand in this non-black type affair with JADE VINE and CRYSTAL'S REVENGE. The pair will be partnered by Khumalo and Strydom respectively, and should fight out a titanic struggle. The narrow first selection goes to the former who has certainly improved since turning four. She has a cracking sand record and only the minimum trip found her out when she went down a neck to SHIVER 'N SHAKE (0.5kg worse off) last time out. She thrashed a decent field over this c & d at conditions level prior to that and can reverse the form with the latter from pole position today.

Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Mike DE KOCK

The three-year old SMART MART had two fair runs on the grass but he is a completely different proposition on this surface. He crushed both of his fields over a mile on the sand prior to that, the latest despite racing wide throughout. The Mambo In Seattle gelding shouldn't have an issue with this trip and he looks to have lots more scope on the sand. He could prove to be much better than his current sand mark.

Race 4: MARSDEN(4) (Each Way)
Jockey: Craig ZACKEY - Trainer: John VOS

This is another very ordinary maiden plate and once again caution must be exercised. The five-year old Newton gelding MARSDEN has done enough to warrant serious consideration in this line-up. He is clearly limited though but thrives on this surface and his c & d form bears testament to that. He is well drawn at gate 2.
