With some of the bigger sides away on duty in continental competition, we have a bit of a shorter gameweek than usual. Nevertheless there are some season defining match-ups that are definitely going to be a worth a punt, so let’s get straight to them without delay.
Friday 13 March
Chippa United 31/20
Chippa have come unstuck of late, but unfortunately for AmaZulu’s sake they may see this as a light at the end of a dark tunnel. They are without a win since late November and Ernst Middendorp will surely have had an ultimatum served on him based on this poor run. AmaZulu have lifted themselves slightly and are now six points adrift at the wrong end of the table. Three unbelievable results in a row from them saw them collect almost as many points as they had in the entire rest of the season prior. They go into this one knowing the struggles Chippa face but because of the immense pressure on the home side to perform, I can’t see Chippa suffering defeat here. A Home/Draw Double Chance at 4/10 looks decent value in this one.
Saturday 14 March
Polokwane City 17/10
Bloemfontein Celtic 17/10
I’m trying to think of the last time I saw Celtic in this rich a vein of form. After a goalless draw against Chiefs at the beginning of February, they’ve gone on a unbeaten run of five games in all competitions without conceding a single goal. They’ve leapt up the PSL table to sixth and now face a Polokwane City side in eighth that’s been ahead of them most of the way. The home side have been on a rocky ride of late, suffering a humiliating 5-0 defeat at the hands of Sundowns in midweek. A dented ego and a visiting side on fire means earning points at home is going to be tough. All of the Double Chance markets are paying the same at the moment, but I’m heading towards the Away/Draw at 4/10 to include in multiples. I think the home side would be mighty lucky to get a win here.
Mpumalanga Black Aces 13/10
Moroka Swallows 21/10
Both of these sides are fighting indifferent form to prevent them being relegated this season. Sadly they are both still in contention, making this game a do-or-die for Black Aces and Swallows. Historically, when these sides have met goals have never been in short supply. In their last seven meetings dating back to 2009 we’ve seen no less than 27 goals scored, with the spoils shared pretty evenly during this period. Form normally favours the side at home but Black Aces haven’t won in Nelspruit since October last year. Instead of trying to decipher who’s going to come up trumps, a cheeky Over 2.5 Goals punt seems the best way to play this. Both sides will benefit from the three points and should make this a free-flowing contest for supremacy.
SuperSport United 14/10
University of Pretoria 19/10
AmaTuks suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat to struggling Platinum Stars in midweek; a result that saw them end a much-needed unbeaten streak dating back to early December. SuperSport have failed to kick on as expected after Gordon Igesund joined them and have now lost three on the trot in the league. They are back at home and have a dominant head-to-head record against Tuks. Having failed to beat Matsatsantsa home or away, a Home/Draw Double Chance at 7/20 looks a great bet to me. If stringed into a multiple with the other four PSL games, you could see yourself coming out with a relatively safe accumulator to follow this weekend.
Sunday 15 March
Platinum Stars 31/20
Maritzburg United 17/10
Dikwena’s midweek victory over an in-form AmaTuks saw them distance themselves ever so slightly from the drop zone, an area they’ve been in since the season started. As we draw closer to the final games, precious points become harder to come by. Maritzburg United make the trip up North after a morale boosting win over high-flying Chiefs, a result you could’ve seen coming based on AmaKhosi’s traditional end-of-season jitters. They will be travelling strong, despite a below average run of form leading up to that midweek result. The Away/Draw Double Chance is at 4/10 and presents good value in my opinion based on current form. Have a go with the others in a multiple and you should come out with a healthy payout.
