Race 7: YOSHIE(7)
Magic Tips Best Bets
Jockey: S'manga KHUMALO - Trainer: Gavin SMITH
The City Express c & d formline on 06/02 could stand up tall in this opening event and AMERICAN SLANG gets the nod. The Argonaut gelding was making his debut when he showed lots of speed and finished a close 3rd in the contest referred to above. He was poor against winners next time out but that form has worked out well and he drops in class here. The Gavin Smith inmate should go close in this field.
Race 5: RED BARREL(1)
Jockey: Raymond DANIELSON - Trainer: Tara LAING
RED BARREL is in excellent form but he worked hard for his last feature win over this c & d, six weeks ago. That said, he would have recovered from those exertions and is once again best in on official ratings. The son of Right Approach has a good c & d record and he is again the one to beat.
Race 6: VIVALDA(3) - TOP BET
Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Yvette BREMNER
The speedy VIVALDA has struck form in recent outings and she performed well in stronger company in her last two c & d starts. She beat many of today's rivals on the Yoshie c & d run on 06/02 and should go very close in this field.
Race 8: TIGER PLAY(4)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Dorrie SHAM
The Astro News formline on 27/02 should dominate the outcome of this event. The gutsy frontrunner TIGER PLAY is holding his form extremely well and he only tired late into 4th in that ten furlong contest, three weeks ago. More importantly, he was just a head behind the runner-up DRILL SARGEANT that day and now meets that rival on 3kgs better weight terms. He was beaten 2.50 lengths by the same rival over this c & d in his penultimate run and is weighted to finish much closer. The son of Tiger Dance gets the services of Gavin Lerena and can stake a serious claim.
Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: DA McLachlan/D McKenzie
The Ice In Seattle c & d formline should come to the fore in this maiden contest but a form reversal could be on the cards. INDEMNITY was making her local debut when she disappointed to finish just under six lengths adrift in that event, two weeks ago. However, she was probably raced too soon after moving from the Cape and that local experience will be a great help this time around. The daughter of Trippi is much better than that performance and perhaps the removal of blinkers could do the trick. She gets Gavin Lerena in the irons and can make serious improvement.
