Magic Tips Best Bets

Jockey: Timothy PRETORIUS - Trainer: Coerie LENSLEY

SUPREME LEADER may finally be adjusting to life in Kimberley and he showed encouraging signs with a decent last effort. He is a very ordinary maiden but meets an equally moderate field and that last run brings him heavily into the equation. He stayed on for 3rd behind Creo's Pride over 2200m that day and can build on the run. He was one length adrift of the runner-up WAKEANNA but the drop in distance could suit the top selection.

Jockey: Gunter WROGEMANN - Trainer: Dorrie SHAM

SEVENTH LUTE had two moderate Cape efforts but has hastily been relocated to Kimberley, suggesting that he is an average type. He had two runs inside ten days though and that means that he has no soundness problems. The son of Seventh Rock has faced much stronger than this maiden field and he could make serious improvement, if handling this surface.

Race 5: PONTEDERA(2)
Jockey: Muzi YENI - Trainer: Tienie PRINSLOO

PONTEDERA showed plenty of guts to win a competitive event over a mile last Monday and though the margin of victory was just a short head, there was plenty of merit in the win. The Judpot gelding was forced to strike the front a long way out after the front horses dropped away quickly, but he still fought on courageously despite being headed. The handicapper's didn't miss a trick by upping him seven pounds but there is plenty more to come from this gelding. He could relish this rise in distance and despite another big mass, he is still the one to beat.

Jockey: Jarryd PENNY - Trainer: Cliffie MILLER

OVERBERRY has been consistent in recent outings and though he found nine furlongs too far for him last time, that form has worked out well. The son of Overlord will appreciate today's drop in distance and he deserves his next career win. The Cliffie Miller inmate has finally cracked a good draw and he should take a power of beating against this lower level opposition.

Race 3: ETHEMBA(7) (Each Way)
Jockey: Hennie GREYLING - Trainer: Dorrie SHAM

ETHEMBA has shown some encouraging signs in her two comeback runs and she drops heavily in class here. She ran on strongly for a good 4th over this c & d in her penultimate run and now has her third run after the layoff. Interestingly, she was only half a length adrift of today's likely favourite MELODY OF MAGIC that day and now meets that rival on 4.5kgs better weight terms. Her wide draw isn't a major issue as she runs on late and she could represent good each/way value.
