Race 3: I HAVE A DREAM(12)
Jockey: S'manga KHUMALO - Trainer: G/K ANTHONY

This is an interesting contest and though the betting market suggests otherwise, it isn't a one-horse affair. I HAVE A DREAM is better than her two fair runs suggest and the engaging of top jockey Khumalo means that the stable fancies their charge. This four-year old daughter of A P Arrow was drawn wide in both her efforts, the first of which was on her moderate debut over seven furlongs against male rivals. She made slight improvement second time out, again from a wide draw but over this trip when she finished just five lengths adrift of an easy winner. That form has worked out extremely well with the runner-up winning twice and the 3rd placed finisher emerging victorious subsequently. This bay filly has cracked a good draw on her inside track debut and there could be heaps of improvement to come.

Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Geoff WOODRUFF

DESERT DESTINY gave her jockey a tough time recently but she has definite ability and a short but effective burst of speed. She moved up menacingly before hanging badly in the closing stages but still produced a pleasing handicap debut. Today's slightly shorter trip could suit her much better and Gavin Lerena knows the daughter of Go Deputy well. The Woodruff inmate won her maiden over this c & d in her penultimate run and she is still ahead of the handicapper.

Race 7: BESAME MUCHO(10)
Jockey: Mathew THACKERAY - Trainer: Spike LERENA

BESAME MUCHO enjoys this inside track and she was rewarded for consistency when she ran on well to beat a gutsy frontrunner over a mile, four weeks ago. She was handed a three pound penalty but is again well drawn and will benefit from a 2.5kgs apprentice claim. She is probably better over this slightly shorter trip and can follow-up.

Jockey: Weichong MARWING - Trainer: Alec LAIRD

EMERALD MACKAY's form stands out in this moderate contest and he should justify his likely short priced favouritism tag. The well-related son of Right Approach had a fair sprint debut in late October and built nicely with a smart subsequent performance at the Vaal in December. He showed lots of pace and despite hanging in the closing stages over this distance that day, he still finished a close-up 3rd, beaten just over one length at the Vaal. He was gelded 16 days later and would have strengthened during his 14 week break. There should be plenty more to come from the Alec Laird inmate and he will take a power of beating in this field. He will be aided by pole position on his track debut.

Race 5: THE BIG EASY(5) (Each Way)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM - Trainer: Johan Janse v/Vuuren

There are some smart sorts on display in this competitive graduation contest but the outcome depends on whether Piere Strydom gets back from his injury in time to partner the likely pacesetter THE BIG EASY. This free-striding son of Big Brown has always shown ability and his comeback form from a 13 week break has been pleasing. He fought hard when outrun late into 2nd over a mile on this track in his penultimate start and wasn't disgraced in a minor feature in yielding conditions, two weeks ago. This track clearly suits his running style and he should relish going over today's extra furlong. He may enjoy a soft lead in this event.
