Magic Tips Best Bets

Jockey: Raymond DANIELSON - Trainer: Tara LAING

The Tara Laing team holds a strong hand in this staying contest and the stable elect CROWN OF GOLD is a confident first choice. The six-year old gelding has an excellent record on this track and he is in good touch, having finish runner-up behind TAARISH (7kgs worse off) over 2400m in a listed feature, five weeks ago. He should reverse the form with his conqueror on the weight turnaround and has strong claims of going one better. He won his only c & d effort.

Race 4: SEVEN ROSES(2)
Jockey: Raymond DANIELSON - Trainer: Tara LAING

SEVEN ROSES made the expected improvement but he should have won his first attempt on the polytrack, if he was given a more accomplished ride. He is equally effective on the grass as he showed when finishing a creditable 4th at the Vaal over this trip, three runs back. The son of Seventh Rock will be cherry-ripe on his third run after the layoff and has strong claims to make amends. He will now be ridden by the stable jockey and should go close.

Jockey: Karl ZECHNER - Trainer: Dorrie SHAM

This is a most intriguing three-year old feature as the best rated runner takes a steep rise in trip. NOTTING HILL has turned his fortunes around since arriving in PE and he almost pulled off a hat-trick, with a feature victory over seven furlongs in his third local start. He has been excellent with front- running tactics and still has tons of improvement to come. He is extremely well treated by the weights and his pedigree suggests that he will stay all day. He has all the early speed to overcome his wide draw and the Horse Chestnut gelding should take a power of beating for his in-form combination.

Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Steven V/RENSBURG

INSEARCHOFTHESUN is at his best over this minimum trip and he produced a solid last effort in a feature over six furlongs on this track, five weeks ago, despite being slow into stride. He takes a drop in class now and should go very well in this field.

Race 5: MESMERIZE(4) (Each Way)
Jockey: Bernard FAYD'HERBE - Trainer: Justin SNAITH

This is an intriguing Pinnacle Contest and the ratings may not necessarily be the best indicator. The son of Var, MESMERIZE has a mountain to climb, if official ratings are anything to go by but he loves this distance and represents a red-hot stable. The five-year old gelding had two fair local sprints after a lengthy absence but will be cherry-ripe on his third run after the layoff and still has lots of improvement to come, locally. He will relish the likely strong gallop and can defy the odds.
