Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: ROY'S FOLLY(1) - TOP BET
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH - Trainer: Jeff FREEDMAN

ROY'S FOLLY clearly found the seven furlongs too far for her last Sunday but will prefer this shorter trip and should be an entirely different proposition tonight. She had promising sprint form before that last run and went close to winning over this trip on the grass in her penultimate outing. That form was franked by the 3rd placed finisher and this daughter of Argonaut should go close in this opening event. She is equally effective on this surface and gets the services of an in-form jockey.

Race 4: MACKDESI(9)
Jockey: Calvin NGCOBO - Trainer: Colin SCOTT

The three-year olds should dominate the betting market and the outcome of this contest, but the lesser fancied MACKDESI could make a winning debut for his new yard. The son of Galileo has excelled in KZN and has promising form, if his poor Gauteng campaign were to be ruled out. He has surprisingly been sold after bouncing back to form with a solid last run over a mile on this track. That earned him a six pound penalty but he is still better than that rating, particularly in this province. His fitness is a slight issue as he returns from an 11 week absence but he can cause an upset with just 51.5kgs on his back. The Scott inmate jumps from a midfield draw.

Jockey: Athandiwe MGUDLWA - Trainer: Charles LAIRD

WALTZED HOME was badly in need of his comeback run in soft conditions on the grass and he didn't help his cause when faltering at the 300m mark. Nevertheless, he will strip much fitter this time around and holds a solid record on this surface. The Rebel King gelding won his only c & d effort and has strong claims from pole position tonight. He is effective with frontrunning tactics and in a contest that could be void of a pacesetter, things could play into his hands.

Race 8: HOLD THE LINE(4)
Jockey: Sean CORMACK - Trainer: Dennis DRIER

HOLD THE LINE is c & d suited and he made decent improvement against much stronger in a progress plate two weeks ago. His cause wasn't helped by a slow start on that occasion but the Drier inmate made late progress to dead-heat for 2nd, albeit well beaten by his high class stable companion. The son of Miesque's Approval will prefer facing this company and he should go very well from his midfield draw, particularly if he jumps on terms.

Race 7: QUEEN'S ADVANCE(2) (Each Way)
Jockey: Ian STURGEON - Trainer: Dennis BOSCH

The three-year olds could again come up trumps in this low-key handicap for fillies and mares. QUEEN'S ADVANCE has shown promise from day one and she is effective on both local surfaces. She overcame her wide draw with ease when she drew off late to beat a competitive maiden field over seven furlongs on this track last time and has lots more improvement to come. She would have strengthened during her nine week break and is rated by her conditioner. The daughter of Right Approach is well drawn and she can make a winning handicap debut.
