Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 3: ERIN(2)
Jockey: Bernard FAYD'HERBE - Trainer: Ormond FERRARIS

There could be a serious lack of pace in this Grade 2 contest but many of the principle contenders possess a decent turn of foot and they should fight things out. The Ormond Ferraris stable had an excellent day at this venue last Saturday and the yard could continue their rich vein of form here. Of course, the stable won this race a year ago with their champion filly Cherry On The Top. They saddle the consistent daughter of Fort Wood, ERIN this time around and the five-year old is a major contender with Fayd'Herbe retaining the ride. She has all the right credentials and moved up menacingly before finishing runner-up over 2450m in a feature, two weeks ago. This shorter trip will suit her perfectly and she should go close.

Jockey: Sean CORMACK - Trainer: Dennis DRIER

An outstanding field goes to post for this cracking Grade 1 sprint contest and a thrilling finish is on the cards. The Grade 1 Cape Flying Championship formline should stand up tall and the first five runners past the post in that event, take their place in this line-up. The top class son of Captain Al , CAPTAIN OF ALL is clearly over his issues that kept him out of the game for over a year. He produced a strong finish and only failed by a short head to collar the outstanding three-year old ALBORAN SEA in the Kenilworth spectacle. He was expected to rout his opposition in his final prep run for this event and will be ready for action today. He meets his conqueror on 1.5kgs better terms and is an obvious contender. His conditioner is no stranger to winning this event.

Race 7: MAJMU(11) - TOP BET
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH - Trainer: Mike DE KOCK

The brilliant grey filly MAJMU trounced a top class field in a Grade 1 over a mile on her return to the Highveld, two weeks ago and she enhanced her 'superstar' reputation. The daughter of Redoute's Choice showed no signs of needing the outing after returning from an 18 week absence and will strip much fitter today. Her pedigree suggests that she will love every bit of the ten furlongs and she is destined for global success. She surprisingly takes on male opposition today but is extremely well treated by the weights and should go very close in this field. All that said, the enormity of her task cannot be over-emphasized as she takes on a Triple Crown & Summer Cup victor, a former July winner, a facile Dingaans winner as well as a demoted July winner. Still, the Mike de Kock charge has the class to overcome all the odds and she is a confident first selection.

Race 9: LAZER STAR(8)
Jockey: Wesley MARWING - Trainer: Ormond FERRARIS

LAZER STAR is a top class sprinter who was defeated for the first time in her career when she tried 1450m in early February. She fought hard when beaten a neck at the line in that latest effort but was well clear of the 3rd placed finisher BICHETTE on that occasion and has tons of improvement to come. The daughter of Toreador was unbeaten in four prior sprint efforts, including back-to-back feature victories and she would have strengthened during her 11 week break. She is extremely well treated by today's weights and young Wesley Marwing gets a perfect opportunity to make his mum even more proud.

Race 6: PINE PRINCESS(2) (Each Way)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH - Trainer: Mike DE KOCK

This is a most intriguing renewal of the final leg of the Triple Tiara, The SA Oaks and all eyes will firmly be on the red-hot favourite, SIREN'S CALL. She has been brilliant in her career thus far and won the SA Classic from a hopeless position, recently. The sticky underfoot conditions clearly helped her cause that day and her class carried her home. Her sire Elusive Fort won the Derby over this trip which bodes well for her chances but the Sean Tarry inmate is still in for another stiff test, partic- ularly from the talented Mike de Kock inmate, PINE PRINCESS. This daughter of Captain Al was beaten in back-to-back races by the top selection in the first two legs of the Triple Tiara but this trip could make all the difference. Her courageous victory against older rivals at the start of this season over nine furlongs on this course still stands out in her formline and she is expected to love every bit of this rise in distance. She should enjoy the likely decent pace that will be set by the relentless galloper WITHBATEDBREATH.
