Race 6: AUGUSTINUS(2)
Magic Tips Best Bets
Jockey: Ryan MUNGER - Trainer: Lucky HOUDALAKIS
PEGGY JAY showed good improvement second time out despite excuses. She tried the turn and 1450m on that occasion but ran on well for 3rd, despite being carried out at a crucial stage. The daughter of Jay Peg was beaten just over three lengths at the line but more importantly was exactly one length ad- rift of the runner-up, DIAMOND TIARA. Her pedigree suggests that she will relish the step-up to the mile & beyond and she should continue to improve with racing. This longer straight will suit her well & she can reverse the form.
Race 2: ESCAPE ROUTE(3)
Jockey: Raymond DANIELSON - Trainer: Sean TARRY
ESCAPE ROUTE has faced considerably stronger in his two sprints thus far and he takes a big drop in class tonight. He was disappointing when well beaten into 4th in his second outing but produced an eye-catching debut in a feature and could prefer tonight's rise in distance. Trainer Sean Tarry's charge is drawn in midfield and he could make serious improvement in maiden company here. He does face some fair sorts in this line-up so will have to be at his best.
Race 7: LIKE A BOSS(5)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Geoff WOODRUFF
LIKE A BOSS is lightly raced and has given the impression that he could develop into a smart stayer. He wasn't disgraced in a strong field on his handicap debut over 2600m last time despite having some issues. The Geoff Woodruff inmate was given a brief nine week absence and he will prefer racing on tonight's standside course. He crushed subsequent winners over this trip in his penultimate start and still has loads of improvement to come. His fitness will be severely tested tonight but he could prove equal to the task and merits healthy respect.
Race 8: MISS TWEEDY(3)
Jockey: Randall SIMONS - Trainer: Stuart PETTIGREW
The three-year old fillies MISS TWEEDY and MIRROR THE MOON renew their rivalry tonight and they could once again fight out the finish. The former has found her best form since being equipped with blinkers and she led throughout to hold off the latter by exactly one length over the mile on this track, three weeks ago. She clearly seems to have escaped with just a three pound penalty and is possibly even better over tonight's shorter trip. The daughter of Tiger Ridge jumps from a midfield draw and she should go close despite shouldering 60kgs.
Jockey: S'manga KHUMALO - Trainer: Barend BOTES
The lightweight DANCE KID could have a big say with his low mass over this long trip. He wasn't given the best ride in yielding conditions over this c & d last time and he is so much better than that. The son of Mambo In Seattle is only 2kgs better off with his conqueror GANESH for a 5.80 lengths defeat over this c & d last time but he should have finished much closer and can certainly set the record straight tonight. He now gets the services of top jockey S'manga Khumalo and despite a wide draw, he should make solid improvement and cause the upset.
