Race 4: STRONG SCENT(5)
Race 5: SIR DUKE(2)
Magic Tips Best Bets
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE - Trainer: Alan GREEFF
The Cup Cake c & d formline on 10/05 should stand up tall in this maiden event. The red-hot Alan Greeff/Greg Cheyne combination is represented by the three-year old RADISHA and she gets the nod. The daughter of Ashaawes has shown fair ability and she was still green when 4th in the contest referred to above. She followed that effort up with a running on 3rd over the minimum trip, after a slow start last time out and still has room for improvement. She meets an ordinary line-up.
Race 3: JAY BELLE(3)
Jockey: Gerrit SCHLECHTER - Trainer: D A McLachlan/D McKenzie
The formline behind Sail Intothe Clouds over this c & d on 15/05 could be worth following in this maiden contest. JAY BELLE is consistent and she tried hard when beaten half a length into 2nd that day and she can certainly go one better from another good draw. ARS POETICA has produced two decent local runs and she finished well to be just three parts of a length adrift of the former last time out. The pair meet on identical weight terms but the All American filly has more scope and must be taken very seriously.
Race 4: STRONG SCENT(5)
Jockey: Karl ZECHNER - Trainer: Dorrie SHAM
STRONG SCENT is unbeaten since trying the local grass track and she comes here in search of a hattrick of victories. The five-year old Kabool mare produced a strong finish to easily beat the Greeff duo of SILVAN SPIRIT and BRIDE'S DOWRY in yielding conditions over this c & d in her penultimate start. She followed that effort up with an impressive victory over a mile at conditions level recently. The top selection is best in on official ratings in this plated event and she has strong claims once again.
Race 6: PADDY O'REILLY(1)
Jockey: Bernard FAYD'HERBE - Trainer: Mike STEWART
The evergreen eight-year old PADDY O'REILLY returns to the Friendly City in a bid to go one better in this listed event. He had two sprints in the Cape after a lengthy absence and of course, almost ran down the local staying champion CROWN OF GOLD in this contest, a year ago. The Dynasty gelding was beaten half a length at the line that day and is now 4kgs better off with his conqueror.
Jockey: Bernard FAYD'HERBE - Trainer: Justin SNAITH
This is a most intriguing renewal of the Fairview 1400 and despite the betting suggesting otherwise, the contest isn't cut-and-dried. OTTIMO has been very disappointing in his last two starts but that was over a mile and as his form shows, he is a totally different proposition over the seven furlongs. In fact, he is yet to be out of the first two in four c & d attempts. The grey gelding was 2nd best behind today's likely odds-on favourite SIR DUKE over this c & d three runs back but is now 4.5kgs better off than his conqueror. His official rating suggests that he has work to do but he clearly should finish closer based on the above weight turnover.
