Magic Tips Best Bets
Jockey: Muzi YENI - Trainer: Mitchell WIESE
The speedy COXSWAIN finally drops to the minimum trip and he is a major contender in this opening event. The Mitch Wiese inmate has done more than enough to date and only tired late in recent efforts over further on the polytrack. It is encouraging that Yeni retains the ride on the Bezrin gelding who should give a very good account of himself. He has produced some useful runs over this c & d.
Race 3: KING'S FIRE(11) - TOP BET
Jockey: Raymond DANIELSON - Trainer: Renate DU PLESSIS
KING'S FIRE caught the eye with a sparkling debut over six furlongs in open company last Sunday. He moved up menacingly before finishing runner-up behind a highly regarded sort from the Justin Snaith yard. That experience would have brought the daughter of Rebel King on and she should enjoy the drop to the minimum distance. The obvious worry is how she has taken that run which was a mere five days ago.
Race 4: JAY BELLE(4)
Jockey: Gerrit SCHLECHTER - Trainer: D A McLachlan/D McKenzie
JAY BELLE is a long-time maiden but she is holding her form well and could get it right today. The daughter of Jay Peg has finished well in her last three runs and this could be her best c & d. She is drawn at gate 2 and her jockey recently ended a win-drought so the filly will get plenty of confidence from the saddle.
Race 5: LUPIN(2)
Jockey: Muzi YENI - Trainer: Justin SNAITH
LUPIN got back to her best when she produced a good finish to win a competitive polytrack event over this trip, four weeks ago. She was handed a four pound penalty for her troubles but is even better on this longer run-in and holds a good c & d record. The Justin Snaith trained filly usually finds a strong finish so her wide draw may not be a big issue.
Jockey: Luyolo MXOTHWA - Trainer: Justin SNAITH
There are some smart sorts on display in the day's topliner and a thrilling finish should be on the cards. MESMERIZE loves this distance and he is much better treated on these handicap terms than when racing in back-to-back pinnacle stakes events, recently. Interestingly, the son of Var was dropped four pounds after his last performance and he can certainly make that count. He jumps from a handy draw and his yard had a good last outing at this venue on Sunday.
