Magic Tips Best Bets
Race 1: BOLLYWOOD BABE(1)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Gavin SMITH
Just a small field of three-year olds go to post in this most intriguing affair, particularly as many of the contenders have raced against each on a few occasions. BOLLYWOOD BABE is the obvious form choice after her cracking last c & d effort but it is most interesting to note that she has raced in the same event as the long-time maiden PATENT OF NOBILITY in her last 7 starts. There was little that separated the pair until the top selection almost pulled off victory with a strong finish under Gavin Lerena, three weeks ago. The daughter of Stage Call finished exactly three lengths in front of the 3rd placed finisher BLANKET that day and has the measure of this field, if reproducing that last run. Her championship seeking jockey has certainly made the difference.
Race 3: DRACO(2)
Jockey: Muzi YENI - Trainer: Steven V/RENSBURG
DRACO has acquitted himself really well in recent performances on this surface despite an awkward draw He had a bad start but caught the eye with a good finish last time out and can go very close if jumpi- ng on terms. Muzi Yeni has had some success aboard the Lateral gelding and he could get that deserved first career win.
Race 4: PURE SPICE(2)
Jockey: Wayne AGRELLA - Trainer: Justin SNAITH
This fillies and mares maiden contest is very tricky and caution is advised. There was plenty to like about PURE SPICE's local debut and she should build on that performance. She tired late after racing handy in yielding conditions over seven furlongs on the grass that day but may have just needed the run and will be fitter now. The Snaith inmate has previously placed on the Greyville polytrack and that experience will stand her in good stead. She is well drawn and should be competitive.
Race 7: NETSUKE(2)
Jockey: Greg CHEYNE - Trainer: Alan GREEFF
NETSUKE benefitted from blinkers as she showed her cracking pace and only tired late over six furlongs on this track, two weeks ago. She was eventually beaten just over half a length at the line but will love dropping to her favourite distance today. The daughter of Western Winter is drawn in pole and she should go very close in this field.
Race 2: BIG THAW(5)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Yvette BREMNER
Another small field go to post for this maiden contest but there could be real value to be had about Gavin Lerena's mount, BIG THAW, who represents the red-hot Bremner yard. This son of Western Winter didn't enjoy blinkers in his poor last two runs and he also raced with a slipped saddle last time. The four-year old chestnut is much better than that as he showed when making steady progress for 4th behind easy winner Parade Council over this c & d, prior to that. That formline could be a good pointer in this event, particularly as the likely favourite GANICUS was a short head further back. Admittedly, the latter has improved since that run but the top selection will enjoy racing without blinkers today and he could find his best form.
