Magic Tips Best Bets

Jockey: Sean CORMACK - Trainer: Justin SNAITH

STAR CHESTNUT showed good improvement when he produced a strong finish to win his local debut over six furlongs at Greyville, three weeks ago. That was his first attempt around the bend so he is clearly above-average and there was plenty of merit in the victory. He tackles much stronger today but is bred to relish the extra furlong and has lots of scope for improvement.

Jockey: Anthony DELPECH - Trainer: Mike DE KOCK

LADY OF SCANDAL was an expensive purchase and naturally she is highly rated by her yard. She showed her true ability when making serious improvement second time out. The daughter of Var set the pace on her polytrack debut over six furlongs and fought on doggedly to hold off some useful types. The grass shouldn't be an issue and her pedigree suggests that she will relish today's extra furlong. There is definitely more to come from the bay filly and she should handle the rise in class.

Race 5: HUNTING OWL(3)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS - Trainer: Duncan HOWELLS

The three-year olds concede chunks of weight to their older counterparts in this low-key handicap but they could still dominate the finish. HUNTING OWL disappointed in a strong field over a mile last time but that form has already been franked and this son of Silvano can make a quick return to form here. He is highly regarded by his conditioner and he produced an excellent penultimate run over shorter. The Duncan Howells inmate is suited to this drop in distance and will be very competitive at his lower level on his handicap debut. He gets the services of Anton Marcus and should take some beating, if the blinkers have the desired effect. That said, he will get stiff competition from the improving Trippi gelding THE TRIPSTER.

Jockey: Anthony DELPECH - Trainer: Alyson WRIGHT

SPECIAL ENCOUNTER suffered a major setback after his promising debut but he produced a decent comeback run over this c & d, two weeks ago and could be back on the right path. The son of Trippi was soundly beaten into 2nd but would have felt the effects of the break in the latter stages. He will be fitter today and should continue to improve. Anthony Delpech has a good record for his stable.

Race 4: THE ARABIAN(2) (Each Way)
Jockey: Muzi YENI - Trainer: Duncan HOWELLS

THE ARABIAN was poor in her last two runs around the turn but she recorded her career best effort over this c & d, three runs back. The daughter of The Sheik stayed on for a good 3rd on that occasion and finished just half a length adrift of the ultra-consistent but costly to follow runner-up FLYING LUXMI The Duncan Howells inmate is lightly raced and still has good scope for improvement. She meets the latter on identical weight terms and could turn things around.
