Magic Tips Best Bets

Jockey: Piere STRYDOM - Trainer: Geoff WOODRUFF

MASTER 'N COMMANDER is lightly raced and has strong credentials. He has lots of gate speed which will help him overcome his wide barrier position and he should be much fitter today. The Geoff Woodruff inmate set the pace before finishing a game 2nd behind a Grade 1 placed rival over six furlongs in his comeback run, two weeks ago. He went close over a mile on debut and this trip will be right up the son of Captain Al's alley. Piere Strydom retains the ride and the pair should go very close once again.

Race 4: WANDIE'S(1)
Jockey: S'manga KHUMALO - Trainer: Sean TARRY

The Sea Fan formline could stand up tall in this maiden contest and WANDIE'S and PIED PIPERESS should fight things out. The former is lightly raced and she is way better than her moderate last run in a workrider's event. She showed useful ability prior to that and was beaten just over half a length into 3rd in the contest referred to above. The daughter of Dynasty has just half a length to find on the latter who was caught late in the Sea Fan event. The Sean Tarry inmate produced her career best run on this track and she should bounce back to form today.

Jockey: Gunter WROGEMANN - Trainer: Stuart PETTIGREW

MAJESTIC BAY and SHEA DEVON renew their rivalry today with the score one apiece between the two useful three-year old geldings. The former has clearly overcome his earlier issues and he kept going well to beat a very good line-up that included the latter over 1700m at the Vaal, four weeks ago. He may have needed his penultimate run when soundly beaten by the latter and seems to have escaped with just a three pound penalty. The Pettigrew inmate will be cherry-ripe on his third run after the rest and he has lots of scope for more improvement.

Jockey: S'manga KHUMALO - Trainer: Sean TARRY

GLORIOUS VICTORY handles big weights well and he got back to form with an eye-catching last effort over seven furlongs at the Vaal. He was returning from a short break and shouldered a big mass but the son of Victory Moon produced a strong finish and only went down by a neck. He picked up a two pound penalty for his troubles but will strip fitter and is better than his recent record over a mile suggests. The Sean Tarry inmate won his maiden over this trip and he should give another honest performance. He will receive stiff opposition though from a few other form contenders.

Race 9: RAFA(4) (Each Way)
Jockey: Hennie GREYLING - Trainer: Leon ERASMUS

This is a low-key handicap and obvious caution is advised. The narrow first selection goes to recent maiden winner RAFA from the Leon Erasmus yard. This son of Parade Leader took a long-time to shed his maiden but he clearly enjoyed being equipped with blinkers as he easily beat a subsequent winner in his first c & d attempt. The three-year old colt was consistent in the maiden ranks and could be slightly better than rated. It does help that he takes on many older rivals who have lost their best form and he could follow up on his handicap debut.
