Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: KHALEESI(4)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM - Trainer: Lucky HOUDALAKIS

There are a few newcomers in this juvenile contest and the betting market must be closely monitored. However, the raced duo of KHALEESI and KALAHARI will take some beating. The former is a most interest- ing entrant as she was considered good enough to make her debut in the Fillies Nursery over 1160m. She went off at long-odds but showed lots of speed before fading late. She was beaten just over seven lengths at the line but would have come on with the experience and she now drops heavily in class. The daughter of Captain Al will be partnered by Strydom.

Race 4: WINTER AL(12)
Jockey: Weichong MARWING - Trainer: Johan Janse v/Vuuren

The speedy WINTER AL has shown lots of promise but she was way below her best when caught late over this c & d in an ordinary field, three weeks ago. However, the daughter of Captain Al was slow into stride and she may have just needed the run after returning from a 26 week break. She will strip much fitter this time around and gets an opportunity to make amends. Weichong Marwing takes the ride and the bay filly has the most ability in this contest.

Jockey: S'manga KHUMALO - Trainer: Weiho MARWING

This is a very ordinary handicap but the runner-up to pay close attention to is the three-year old recent maiden winner, SILVER MATADOR. The Toreador gelding may have taken six starts to shed his maiden certificate in a workrider's event but he possesses a great finish as was evident in his eye catching last start over the mile. He is clearly underrated by the handicapper and thrives down these long run-ins. The Weiho Marwing inmate has plenty of scope for improvement and he could take full advantage of his low mark. S'manga Khumalo has partnered him previously and that is key.

Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Roy MAGNER

The Magner yard holds a strong hand in this competitive five furlong handicap. The three-year old filly MISS DECEMBER has a smart turn of foot and today's likely blistering pace will play into her hands. She takes on considerably stronger than she has faced but was super-impressive when trouncing ALCANINA (1.5kgs better off) over this c & d last time and still has lots of room for further improve- ment. The daughter of Var is now unbeaten from two c & d outings and she could rise to the challenge.

Race 9: WILL PAYS(2) (Each Way)
Jockey: Donavan MANSOUR - Trainer: Johan Janse v/Vuuren

WILL PAYS is above-average and he has adjusted nicely to the transition of moving to Gauteng. The former Zimbabwe inmate has shown class from day one and he produced a smart finish to easily win a competitive affair over 1160m at Turffontein in his penultimate run. The wide draw found him out on the inside track last time but he seems to prefer racing down the straight. The Imperial Stride gelding is still lightly raced and has lots of scope. He races fresh after a ten week absence and should go close over this minimum trip.
