Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 3: WINTER AL(9) - TOP BET
Jockey: Donavan MANSOUR - Trainer: Johan Janse v/Vuuren

WINTER AL is very fast and she had promising form prior to suffering a setback. She met three top quality sorts in as many events but was pipped on the post over 1160m last time out. The daughter of Captain Al will be at home over this minimum trip and she meets a very weak field on her comeback run after the 26 week absence. She should take a power of beating, even though she won't be fully wound up.

Race 7: ALCANINA(5)
Jockey: Callan MURRAY - Trainer: Brian WIID

There are lots of speedy sorts in this competitive fillies and mares handicap and an upset could be on the cards. The five-year old mare ALCANINA has been competing against much stronger opposition for quite some time now and she continues to drop significantly in the ratings. She seems to have issues but is effective over this minimum distance and could bounce back to form in this much weaker field. She will benefit from a 1.5kgs claiming apprentice.

Race 8: EAU DE CREOLE(1)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Geoff WOODRUFF

This is a weak maiden contest to end the day's proceedings but the Star Of Love formline could dominate the finish. EAU DE CREOLE has been costly and frustrating to follow but she should have finished closer but for traffic issues in that last run over this c & d. She has exactly three lengths to find with the runner-up THREE G on that effort but has more scope of the pair and Gavin Lerena will ensure that she gets a clear passage over the final furlong, this time around. The Woodruff inmate is expected to reverse the form.

Race 5: APPROVAL RATING(2) (Each Way)
Jockey: Marco V/RENSBURG - Trainer: Johan Janse v/Vuuren

APPROVAL RATING has been taking on stronger in recent outings but is probably best treated in these handicap events. In fact, he produced his best South African performance when flying at the finish, only to be narrowly defeated by his stable companion in his only c & d outing, four runs back. He is surprisingly not the stable elect today but drops in class and ratings. The five-year old entire' can pull this off. The three-year olds will keep the top rating honest though with MOOTAHADEE and DOING IT FOR DAN leading the charge. The former is effective on both surfaces and brings promising recent sand form in this contest. He showed his class and determination to beat a top class veteran sand performer from a poor draw in his comeback, two weeks ago. The Mike de Kock inmate will strip fitter and had one pleasing effort on this track. He should give another very honest account of himself.
