Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: LE CHAT D'AMOUR(3)
Jockey: S'manga KHUMALO - Trainer: Duncan HOWELLS

LE CHAT D'AMOUR is in good form and her last outing proved that she stays well. She was caught late over 2400m on the grass by male rivals that day and is now back against her own sex. She had a poor attempt on this polytrack some time ago but was reportedly not striding out and may have been unsuited to blinkers on that occasion. The Duncan Howells inmate is well drawn here and she will go close, if handling this surface.

Race 2: BULLETEER(10)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA - Trainer: Dennis BOSCH

BULLETEER is a smart, fast improving sort who has produced two excellent runs on this polytrack. She easily beat a subsequent winner over this c & d on debut and then followed that up with an even more impressive handicap debut over nine furlonmgs, two weeks ago. The daughter of Jet Master finished strongly for a close 2nd in that last outing and despite a pound hike in her rating, she still has lots more to offer and is ahead of the handicapper's assessment. She should handle this rise in class and is the one to beat.

Jockey: Anton MARCUS - Trainer: Charles LAIRD

BELOVED COUNTRY isn't best in official ratings but the speedy daughter of Trippi still has plenty going for her and she could take some beating in this dash. She acquitted herself extremely well when 3rd behind some top quality male rivals in the Cape over six furlongs earlier in the year. She would have more than recovered from the trip during her 19 weeks break and will be fit and ready for this event. The Charles Laird inmate has had two useful runs on this surface and she looks set to end her almost one year win-drought.

Jockey: Bernard FAYD'HERBE - Trainer: Mike BASS

The defending champion HAMMIE'S HOOKER got her career back on track just in time for this winter campaign. She had a decent last run in a Grade 1 over a mile at Turffontein and would have recovered during her eight week break. The daughter of Trippi won't be fully tuned up, with the Garden Province stakes on her agenda in early July but she is extremely well in on official ratings and her classy should carry her through. She was runner-up in a Grade 1 in her only effort on this track and should take some beating from her good draw.

Race 9: HELDERBERG BLUE(2) (Each Way)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS - Trainer: Mike BASS

HELDERBERG BLUE's last run in the Greyville 1900m must be completely ignored as he found traffic problems at a crucial stage. He had a fair KZN debut over shorter prior to that and should produce a much improved effort. He gets Anton Marcus in the saddle from gate 1 and the Mike Bass inmate will be cherry-ripe on his third run after the layoff.
